Mr. Pickard Principal the Class of 1977 Your senior year has rolled a- round before you were aware of it and now you are able to plan the things that you have been wanting to do for many years. No matter what your endeavors will be you will always run into peo- ple--people like yourselves-- who have ambitions, who have drive, who have different opin- ions, and who want the best out of life. May your years of experience in the Gouverneur Central Schools help you to make the best possible life and help you achieve the goals you have set forth for yourselves. As we leave the halls of Gouver- neur High School together, I do wish to extend my best wishes for success in all that you do. Charles H. Pickard J two To the Class of 1977 Even though I have only been your high school principal for a short time, I find I am proud to have worked with you in helping you meet your many varied goals. I hope that your future will hold many exciting challenges as you continue your education, enter the labor world, and begin your lives as progressive members of your community. I trust you will accept your role in life with the enthusiasm you have shown at Gouverneur High School. To each one of you I extend a sincere congratulations and best wishes for your future. Glenn G. As we toil along life's rough and rugged ways. When we are set adrifting On the world's cold, dreary tide. And the evening shadows gently o'er us roll. We will like to sit and think about The sons we stood beside When we struggled for the Purple and the Gold. Then her praises we will sing. Till the echoes 'round us ring. And we'll sing them with a will forever more. For we're singing of the glories Of our dear old G. H. S. May they echo from the mountains to the shore. Virginia Jo Yerdon thirty-three V a v ™ thi: November 18th and 19th the characters of Tim Kelley’s Frankenstein were pres- ent in select chambers of GHS. The feature character, Dr. Victor Frankenstein, was brought to a full life by Tauno Schwelnus. Mark Hunt was cast as Victor Frank- enstein's assistant and companion, doing the part ample justice. Dennis Mong's realistic representation of the creature kept the crowded audience in a suspenseful state. Victor's fiance, depicted by Amy Sipher, won the hearts of all with her charm and understanding. Kay Griffith, with maternal lovingness, gave a laudable rendition of Dr. Frankenstein's mother. Other members of the cast, influencing the entire production, were necessary ingredients to the overall success of the play. These were Robin Versailles, Cindy Curcurutp, and Nancy Carbone. Cindy played the role of Sophie, Victor Frankenstein's loyal housekeeper, adding humor to the otherwise conservative environment. Robin, portraying the stern inspector, gave his usual all out effort. In a dramatic oration, Nancy was the gypsy girl whose life was threatened by a false accusation of murder. Complementing the production were make-up, direction, costuming, and behind-the-scene efforts, of which all are commendable. All in all, one might say that the presentation tripped with professional charisma. thirty-four Juniors V thirty-six Room 368—Mr. Philbrook — ROW 1 — Chris Knowlton, Steve Sprague, Pam Blair, Karen White, Julie French, Joanne Campbell. The Gouverneur High School Band, an honored tradi- tion of the area, is effective still in these modern times. It is enjoyed today just as it was decades ago by audiences and participants alike. Under the baton of Charles Palmatier, the unit is comprised of approximately eighty members. They combine to produce laudable entertainment for school as well as community functions. The 1977 Gouverneur High School Band is honored this year in two distinct ways. First, several cadet teachers have guest conducted the group, further augmenting each student's development in music. Secondly, the band is involved in an exchange-type program with a similar group in Bridgewater, Mas- sachusetts. The two bands will meet in Gouverneur and Bridgewater to perform a dual concert. Definately, GHS is proud to have such a membership representing it. Long may the tradition remain unbroken. ninety-seven Twirlers Twirlers—ROW 1 — C. Briggs, V. Bowman. ROW 2—V. Murray, J. Perry, C.
