TO THE CLASS OF 1974 From your theme the two lines - That far away prize, that world of success is waiting for me if I heed the call” strikes me as the most urgent challenge of any group that has gone on before you. As you move into the new and complicated life after your graduation we certainly hope you are amply prepared to heed the call to achieve the far away prize and the world of success. Your parents, the teachers and staff of the Gouverneur Central School Dis- trict have worked with dedication during these trying times to help you become equipped to achieve these goals. Now that you are what you are please make everyone proud of your accomplishments by taking your place in society and settling for nothing less than your dream, your prize and your success. Best wishes and success in all your endeavors. Joseph A. Netto, Sr. Superintendent of Schools To the Class of 1974: ''I've got to be me, the theme of your Yearbook, probably means different things to different people. To me it means all of us in this day and age have to be ourselves. Many, many pressures are being put on all of us from the press, from our government, from our society and from countries abroad. Many factions are trying to mold our way of life. Students rebel because they cannot do their ''thing.” Spiritual and moral values CHARLES H. PICKARD, Principal chan8e because of the pressures exerted upon society, which means, in the final analysis, that with my education, with my bringing up I still have got to be me. I trust that each and every one of you within the framework of our society try to be your individual selves. Charles H. Pickard Principal JOHN M. GARNER, Vice-Principal PETER D. This country is a little different from my country, beginning with the language, with which I had many prob- lems, because I didn't understand anything that people were saying to me. But I have a wonderful American family; I am referring to the Snyder family. They helped me in every respect, all of them having patience with me. When I was a student in school at home I knew several friendly people, and now I have a lot of friends in this beautiful country. Only one thing remains to be said to all of you and this is . , . Thank-you! 95 Segundo Leon ROW 1: J. Pratt, T. Bergau, J. Audycki - Treas., D. Paige - V. Pres., S. Hughto - Pres., D. Brown - Sec., C. Canell, D. Murray. ROW 2: D. Emrich, L. Reynolds, S. Then her praises we will sing, Till the echoes 'round us ring, And we'll sing them with a will forever more, For we're singing of the glories Of our dear Old G. H. S. May they echo from the mountains to the shore. When we are set adrifting On the world's cold, dreary tide, And the evening shadows gently o’er us roll, We will like to sit and think about the sons we stood beside When we struggled for the Purple and the Gold. 2 117 V6wS£iy R ROW 1: P. But parts are still to be seen in this book. We hope we've brought out the individualism of our school and of its students, faculty, administration, and staff. We would like to thank the faculty, the administration, the coaches, Mr. Griffin (Taylor's representative) and the club advisors for all their cooperation. We should also like to thank Mr. Conway for the pictures he took for us. Most of all, we would like to thank Ms. Sobieski for helping us no matter how little it seemed that we were doing. 149 Y cutbock 'feARBOOK S sct-ipVion.
