V + y . vv 1 Jt 5, s is jJ • v ■ W  1 ’ •' Alma Mater 'Mong the hills of old Saint Lawrence Stands the school we love so well. Where we spent so many bright and happy days; Its fond memories will linger In our hearts to cheer and bless, As we toil along life’s rough and rugged ways. When we are set adrifting On the world’s cold, dreary tide, And the evening shadows gently o’er us roll, We will like to sit and think about The sons we stood beside When we struggled for the Purple and the Gold. chorus Then her praises we will sing, ’Till the echoes ’round us ring. And we’ll sing them with a will forever more, For we’re singing of the glories Of our dear Old G.H.S. May they echo from the mountains to the shore. Studious members of the Science Seminar study electronics. Jackie Clark converses with herself in the French Lab. Curriculum Changes Curriculum changes occurred in several different departments this year. The English Department added a seminar type course for tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grade students, the objective being a greater improvement in the writing skills of those students. The Language Department added lab periods to the regular classes to give more practice in pronunciation and comprehension of the spoken for- eign language. A new shop elective in which girls also learn about ceramics and woodworking was started by the Industrial Arts department. Lab periods were added to some homemaking classes to give more practical training time. A Science Seminar class gave several talented stu- dents opportunities to engage in the study of elec- tronics and other areas of special interest. 44 Future homemakers test their culinary abilities. i clubs First Row: Margaret Walrath, Janet Jones, Mary Sibley. Night of January 16th, written by Ayn Rand, was a comedy-drama revolving around a murder. The unique feature of the play was that the jury was drawn from the audience. Karen Andre, the principal character, was on trial for the murder of Bjorn Lee Faulkner. The questioning of the witnesses was highlighted by the colorful testimony of the Negro cleaning woman, Mrs. John Hutchins; the Swedish housekeeper, Magda Svenson; and night club entertainer, Roberta Van Rensselaer. The verdict on both nights was not guilty. Wildcats had a most successful foot- ball season this year. For the two seasons of 57-58 and 58-59 the Wildcats were league champions but this year’s eleven improved on the records of pre- vious teams.Their undefeated season this year brought the total of consecutive wins to twelve, making a new record of seven wins by any one team. The Wildcats also had the best offensive and defensive record of many years; they scored 196 points and had only 31 points scored against them, thereby ending the sea- son with a 58 point edge over the second place team. Jerry Abrantes, three year veteran fullback who averaged over eight points per game, was selected first string back on the All Upstate team. Much of the season’s success was due to the excellent coaching of Mr. LaFalse and his assistant Mr. Jones. Community support of the team was very encouraging. 74 J. V.
