The instrumental groups have given generously of their time and talents to make assem- blies, plays, games and dances more enjoyable. Public and students have appreciated the fine concerts staged by the A Cappella Choir in Decemberg the junior and Senior Bands in Marchg the Orchestra and Girls' Chorus in May. Individual players from all grades and music levels showed progress in a series of Student Recitals given through the winter. The Orchestra was invited to appear at the Northern Zone Conference of the New Yorl-: State Teachers' Association in September, a signal honor. The Dance Band, the Girls' Sex- tette and the Boys' Quartette accompanied the junior Play cast to assembly appearances in Potsdam, and Massena. Selected students from Band, Choir and Orchestra attended the NYSSMA Clinic in Potsdam in November, while the Band, Chorus, Choir and String En- srmble took part in the May Festival. Civic organizations have benefited by the Band's appearances on Halloween. Memorial Day and the Sesquicentennial celebration, while the Sextette and Quartette have entertained many clubs and groups about town. The students in music may well be proud of their contribution to the life of the school and may be assured that students, faculty and public appreciate it. tPage 263 Orchestra Plano-Marilyn Howard. It is an entirely student supported and non-profit-making organization, which is terminating its fifteenth consecutive year of publication. As a member of E. S. S. P. A,, the Dean Hi Lilef receives excellent criticisms from the E. S. S. P. A. judges annually. These reviews act as an incentive to the staff to improve their paper. Each fall Miss Eckmann and thetwo top ranking editors attend the E. S. S. P. A. con- vention held at Syracuse, New York, and on their return bring with them many worthwhile. and helpbul suggestions gleaned from the lectures and workshops they attended. The Newspaper Club, as one of the largest in the school with sixty members, not only prints the present and future news and trains its members in newspaper composition but also draws the members together in a friendly atmosphere of work and fun. Every Dean Hi-Lilei writer will long remember the comradship and fun of the Friday night sessions as the stu- dents and Miss Eckmann work to produce a newspaper for the following Monday. Each Oc- tober a banquet is held at which the staff for the coming year is announced. The club also sponsors one of the biggest and most festive dances of the yearg the annual May Dance, at which the students elected king and queen of the May are crowned, Dean Hi-Lite Reporters Fourth Row-left to right: Marilyn Dier, Marlene Harvey. It would be nice to chronicle their activities-they are all valuable, repre- senting as they do a wide range of interests: science, homemaking, history, lang- uage, etc. Some give valuable service to the school-in the library, handling the visual aids, managing the dances. All expand the students' mental horizon, help him make wise use of his leisure time and increase his enjoyment of school. We will let the pictures speak for themselves.
