The vocal ensembles were made up of all new members. Lemuel Schofield, James Fitz- gerald, Carl Closs, and Louis Curtis made up the Boy's Quartet, which made its debut in a student recital and appeared ln the Band Concert later. These boys were also in the Boys Glee Club which appeared at the Band Concert. Other members of the Glee Club . were Morris Lee, Eugene Turnbull, Darrell Whitton, Don Compo, Walter Kyer, Victor Kondra, Herbert Stacy, William Anderson, William Fitzgerald, and Richard Freeman, accompanist. The Girl's Sextette, not organ- ized untll December, made up for a late start by a whirlwind finish with appear- ances ln the Spring before the Ninth Student Recital, the Outlook Club, the Grange Past Maste?'s meeting, the Luncheon Club Ladies' Night at the Grange, the Rebeccas at the Odd Fellows Hall, the dances at school, and the Band Concert. Members of the Sextette were Carol Davis, Inez Bresett, Joan Gollaher, Doreen Ruderman, Sarah Jane Smith, and Eleanor Collins, Jean Patton was the accom- panist. Other vocal ensembles included a Quintet from Junior High organized for tal- ent night, Senior and Junior Voice Classes, and many vocalists who were heard in the annual Dance Band vocalists contest which was won by Sarah Jane Smith and James Fitzgerald. Dance Band appeared at many school dances and made a hit at the annual Band Concert. Director, Mrs. Farley. udic elaarfmenf ' Members of the music department chalk- ed up another banner year with countless appearances in assemblies, concerts, and Stu- dent Recltals here in school, and with ap- pearances before numerous civic organiza- tions and Clubs about town. The large or- ganizations grew to even greater proportions, Junior High Chorus leading the Way with ' A over one hundred members. Senior Chorus had eighty-nine members: Senior Band fifty-three members, and Junior Band forty- six members, New organizations of the year were the beautiful thirty-five voiced selected A Capella Choir, and the Drum and Bugle Corps, The Jhoir sang for the Yuletide Choral Festival, ind later appeared in the Orchestra-Chorus Zoncert, the Potsdam Festival, and for Gradu- ition. Senior and Junior Chorus appeared in issemblies and at Graduations. New instruments added to the music de- partment were another baritone horn, a flute, a plccolo, and an oboe. Senior Band welcomed Governor Dewey and vlce versa at an early Fall meeting cut- side the Grange Hall, where the Governor found the band to be playing very well for so early ln the year. Lona, a champion twlrler from Mlchlgan, arrived late in the Fall and moved to Pennsylvania after the Legion Chorus Show on April sixth. During her few months at GHS she gave many wonderful twlrling exhibitions and made many frlends among the students. Many other girls did outstanding work ln the Twlrlers Corps. Ma- jorettes wlth the Senlor Band were Marjorie Gooclnough, Janet Sayer, Beverly Brown and Shirley McEwlng. Eugene Turnbull was the . Senlor Band attended the Pots- at the end of April where it of the outstanding concert se- had been performed at the Band Drurn Major dam festival played some lectlons that Concert earlier ln the year. Junior Band made several appearances ln assemblies and at a Student Recital. Some of lts members were also members of the Drum and Bugle Corps. Junior Band massed with the Senior Band to form a hundred piece en- semble for the finale of the Band Concert. Soloists ln addition to the dozens who performed at the four Student Recltals were Patricia Rowe, the French Horn soloist in the Band Concert, Nancy Nelson vlolln soloist, Sarah Jane Smith, piano sololst, and Joan Hance, trumpet soloist, all ln the Orchestra Concert. William Shepard was vocal soloist with the Senlor Chorus. Accompanlsts were Marilyn Howard and Susan Kinney for Senlor Orchestra and Janet Johnson for the Choral organizations.
