It's one of those moonlit weekend nights on the Gould Campus. Despite the fact that it’s past 11 we see Vicci and Gary running up the bank with daisies in their hands. After stumbling over Mike and Frannie in right field, the four of them complete the dash to their respective dorms. On the front steps we pass Lizzie coping with Meyer. Sue Vance, Nancy Creteau and Janie are conversing with Pinette and Schmohl from the windows of third floor. Inside, in the butt room Tricia is trying to wake up while puffing on a Marlboro. Buffy and Hildy are discuss- ing plans for the late evening. Martha is trying to com- fort Gwenie about her latest change of heart. Judy Waite is sharing her plans for becoming a shepherdess with Marcie. Kathy Buck is occupying one full couch, still asleep? Sally and Judy Bancroft are watching whatever is on TV at 11 in Maine. Twig and M.J. are brewing up a feast for some Holden gentlemen. Smitty and Miss are on their third match of ping pong and Miss hasn’t won a match yet. Suspicious noises from the area of the ice cream room reveal the whereabouts of Sue Pollack and Nancy Reid. On second floor Stephie and Wendy are coping with the Red Sox’ services. Sue Hatch isn’t in Sears’ room, but upon search we find her at the back door awaiting Judy’s return from a Rumford trip. Chris Foley is keep- ing her company while they discuss Chris' marks. Sadie is out of sight as usual, but her collection of music is giving the floor atmosphere. On Third Hall Judy Jenness is sewing in Candy’s room while Candy is worrying about her bills. Aim is still out somewhere with her townie. Francie, now asleep, has been conferring at the NTL house. Small Riley is asleep? while her records still revolve and Josie prepares for bed. Debbie is already asleep since she’s been, all petered out. Bunker is being entertained by Johnny Car- son in the privacy of her own room. Mrs. Parks hasn't been heard from yet this evening. (It’s the rumor that she’s still out parking.) Miss Swift is trying to convince us all that it’s half an hour after lights out. Bonsoir! S. A. BOYS’ DORM As we enter the Boy’s Dorm, in the “butt room we find Rusty Phipps, Kent Shepard, Bill Heckenkamp, Mark Harding and Jim Ogg talking over the exciting events of the day or telling old stories. Continuing along the first floor we find Geoff Ruben finally doing his algebra and missing his roommate Bill Patrick (Twiggy) who is still visiting the hospital. Still further the emptiness denotes that Gary Caruso, Fred Reinhart, Peter Cole, and Mike Curtis have gone over the bank (and out of sight) to pick daisies. In the next room the silence is disturbed by a Rick Mercer super modified frog call which brings some laughter from his neighbors Bob Cope and Gordon Cava- naugh. The F.B.I. has finally caught up with Andy Dill leaving us without a secret agent. Jeff Winter and Bill Runyon are visiting at the Student Union. Bob Reinhart and Obie Atkinson are uptown shopping for toothpaste. (Hope they find it.) Bob Schmohl, Dave Jervis, and Doug Bailey are talking about the Red Sox’ prospects. Ed Handy, Bill Peters, and Scott Daigle are packing for their annual camp out on Paradise Hill. Up on second floor we find Terry Lunt in Mr. LaDieu’s room watching the tube. High notes of unusual origin pierce our ears as we pass by Bob Gilpataric and Ted St. Pierre’s room. Peter Martin, Kris Larson, Al Mersfeld- er, and Ray Richards are flooding the hallways and avoid- ing the flying mustard of Rick MacAdam and Jeff Reel. Bart Bailey and John Lowell are on a Gehring Hall bed check. John Erhard and Kip Taylor are enjoying a game of pool while Ed Bailey watches closely. Scott Treworgy and his roommate, Mark Martin, are presently hiding in their closets because of their fear of Freshman Brook. Proctor Ron Collins (Gazebo) has just broken up another Room 22 fight between Scott Cumming (alias Brunno) and Mark Bechtel. Ray Harrington has taken Paul Tre- worgy to Rumford and Mark Riley is seeing Venezuelan sights. Stuart Gaw and Paul Pinette are checking the NTL House facilities. TOWNIES If one stopped to consider the townies at Gould, he would realize the eliteness of this fine group. From this group we have the senior class valedictorian, Nancy Brown, the school’s favorite chipper, Craig Davis, and one of the few sophomores ever to receive a Gould blazer, Danny Vogt. The townies also can boast that they have one fifth of all the Freshmen — Cathy Vogt and Donna Grover. We have Gould's faithful “Doc, Ray Harrington and the only Norwegian Gould student to be accepted at Colby, Pipp Wiese. Two other townies who are big men on campus are this year's basketball team captain — Craig Boyd, and next year’s captain, Wayne Davis. One of Maine’s best al- pine skiers, Peter Kailey, and the world’s greatest connoisseur of bags, Susie Pierce, are also members of the Gould townie group. John Thurston is the well-respected owner of the townie-mobile, the only one in existence, upon which this remarkable group is perched. We love us. FOOTBALL The Gould 1968 football season opened on September 20 with a two and one half hour practice. Coaches Hurd, Cousins, LaDieu, and Roderick had only a few short weeks to get the team ready for their first game. Long practices ensued and by the time that October 9 arrived, the team was fully prepared for the upcoming games. Their first game was with the B squad of the Kents Hill school team. Kents Hill was a small and unorganized team and gave way easily to Gould's powerful plays. The Huskies over- whelmed Kents Hill with a strong running at- tack which scored six touchdowns and secured four extra points. The defense was also very good. They stopped the Kents Hill team every time and were still holding them back when the game ended in a 52-0 victory. The next time that Gould was scheduled to play was on Saturday, October 19. In the morn- ing the Huskies climbed into the Gould bus for the long trip to M.C.I. (Maine Central Insti- tute) in Pittsfield. The team played well, but were outgunned by the big, powerful M.C.I. eleven, who won 32-12. The last game was played on Parents’ Day, October 26. This game with Hyde was more evenly matched than the other two. The game was close and undecided up to the last play. Hyde edged out Gould with a 20-13 victory which ended the 1968 season. A summary of the 1968 football scores is as follows: Gould 52 Kents Hill 0 Gould 12 M.C.I. 32 Gould 13 Hyde 20 Jerry Gibbs 70 66 FOOTBALL TEAM Kneeling: Coach Charles Hurd, Ray Harrington. With only ten men out for baseball, the team was both shallow and Gould 4 Notre Dame 8 inexperienced. Our inexperience showed through in the first game against Gould 2 M. Our lack of depth was fully illustrated by the fact Gould 1 Hinckley 2 that our manager Al Mersfelder earned a letter as both manager and a player. The cross-country team, coached by Mr. Frank Vogt, participated in eight meets this season including the Maine Prep School League Meet which was held at Hebron. Craig Boyd, a senior, was the cap- tain of this year’s team. The team, which consisted of eleven members, eight of whom re- ceived letters, was victorious in three meets this fall. With the ma- jority of the team returning under- classmen, we look forward to even greater things in the coming sea- son. c c R O O U S N ST R Y SCORES Gould 24 Hyde 31 Gould 39 Hebron 16 Gould 29 M.C.I. 26 Gould 28 North Yarmouth 31 Gould 43 Oxford Hills 34 Fryeburg 43 Gould 27 Hyde 28 Gould 33 North Yarmouth 22 (Low score wins) Bill Runyon 71 TRACK TEAM The track team had a rather poor season, but not because they didn’t work or have good men. Inexperience and injury took their toll from the ranks. Bart Bailey was high scorer for the team with a collective 50 pts. Mr. Vogt, aided by Joe and Mr. LaDieu, gave valuable coaching. GOLF TEAM Despite the fact that the members of the golf team are grand people, the team wasn’t much of a winner. Mr. Crosbie provided coaching and rapid transport and the whole group had a good time in the sand traps and the woods! Pete Kailey saved some morale by winning a game and the others contented themselves with the fact that they were good sports. There’s an- other year too and who knows what may happen. Our workout consisted of hopping up and down, jumping up and down, and bugging the boys' basketball team. We had a lot of fun going to the meets. Coming back we had many a hairy ride, but we always managed to stop at Goodwin’s. We even got around to beating Bridgton and Liver- more Falls. However our best meet was against Farming- ton. Jose really showed us she could ski. She and Aim placed in the top three with Judy, Gwennie, and Liz not far behind. The whole team showed great improvement during the season. Ellie became quite the slalom racer, and Sadie with her Rossie’s was getting pretty good. THANKS A LOT DAD!! Aim (team captain) and Josie P.S.
