That’s what I’m trying to say. It’s not a reason for giving up, because then what would happen? We would have a completely dark world, a nightmare world. So, I think we owe it to ourselves and others not to give up because we failed to change something we wanted very much, but to work with this feeling of a cellular change, a change in consciousness. — Anais Nin Sheryl Lynne Williams Baltimore, MD Communications i 104 .osswy a Julienne Wood Darien, CT Political Science “I just want to have as much effect on life as it has . had on me.” CW Cindy Lynn Wood “Micheal” Steep Falls, ME Mathematics Education “Life, like a dome of many-colored glass, strains the white radiance of eternity.” — Percy Bysshe Shelley 105 Annie Lee Young “Muffie” Oak Ridge. Inside white stone walls sunlight will sift blue windows, paint the wooden benches blue. Pinned against the wooden panels the cross will throw its own blue shadow. They will sit for you and pray. And here 1 sit. From this white stonewall I watch the first red leaves of Autumn fall, drift against the Autumn blue, float into the waters. Blue sky sinks into blue water — blue pushed up from blue by one red strip, the burning end of summer. They need to talk to you. to tell what they all know, to paste a collage of photos in the blue: you taught Econ to the mirror when you brushed your teeth, watched football to the sound of sermons, braided all their hair before the dance. They pause to see your white smile, your dark skin. 1 need to talk to you. 1 tell the leaves I overheard you ask the phone to live a Christian life. Where’s your merciful God, Alicia? His Omniscience failed me. A fish jumps, circles grow and wash the shore. A breeze washes the grass, bows their yellow heads to my stonewall. But, through it all one thing has remained constant — the loyalty and support we received from Carol Weinberg. In her role as teacher, counselor, and friend, Carol has touched the lives of every member of the senior class in a very special way. Beginning in the fall with field hockey, four players — Lauren Bruckner, Linda Carpenter, Allison Dollar, and Sarah Obaditch — were selected for the Baltimore College team and played in the Southeast Tournament. Bruckner was then chosen to goalie for the Southeast team at the National Tournament In California. The tennis cap- tain, Nancy Griff, was undefeated this season. Our Riding team placed third in the intercolleglates at Sweet Briar. This winter, the swim team was led by Melissa Holland who was undefeated and also set five records at the Chesapeake Women’s Athletic Conference. Senior Trlsh Lindsay, who started in hockey and was captain for basketball was named Scholar Athlete. And through all the seasons the Goucher gopher cheered them on. 173 174 176 For us believing physicists the distinction between past, present and future is only an illusion, even if a stubborn one.
