Coucher the 01d . . . is reaching her future. Most colleges founded equally long ago have been by now long settled in middle age, long used to dealing with such collegiate problems as repairing old buildings, keeping the ivy from covering windows, and watching the steps of the library being worn down by the years of scholars9 feet. In maturity of scholarship and academic achieve- ment, Coucher is as adult as any of her age; yet most of the problems she has faced during the last twenty years have been, really, those of the very young. 1958 is part of a strategic period in Couchervs life. The new program for the lower division curriculum appearing in September marks the climax of years of careful planning.

With the opening of Gamble House this fall, Anna Heuhech Hall will have reached completion. The close of the year will see well on its way the major, seventy-fifth anniversary fund-raising campaign, which is setting its sights on the physical completion of the campus and new standards for salaries and scholarships.
