Foreword W K We have spent four years in a Baltimore teeming with romantic history. We have lived against a tapestry in whose background we rind woven a story thrilling in its portent. We see, silhouetted against the Irish foot-hills, a village of Erin, where Lord Baltimore, in his Irish castle, is asking for a holding in the new world, preferably in Maryland. We see a king, sitting high on his throne, granting the patent. We see the two sons of Lord Baltimore coming to America, land- ing on the sunny shores of Maryland, and building a com- munity, building a city that houses us. But our heritage is more than romantic, it contains the elements of justice, of personal freedom, of friendliness. And Goucher carries on the tradition.
