' ' ' . 7 SENICR CLASS PROPHECY It was Thursday evenmg and the next day the class of '56 was to graduate from G H S A sat before the f1re I wondered where my classmates would be 1n twenty years As I sat there musmg I heard a door open and close softly Lookrng around I saw a small man 1n a qualnt old costume who remrnded me of Irv1ng's men of the mountam He asked me what I was thlnkmg about I told hrm Then he asked me 1f I was wrlhng to go 1nto the future for a whrle and see my classmates I hurrredly sard Yes Then take hold of my arm I d1d th1s and swrftly the scene changed We were 1n the ed1tor's off1ce of a large Cleveland newspaper At the desk sat Ramon Lora the edrtor and Llnda Lucas h1s competent stenographer Whrle they were talkrng Paul Bauman and Bob Sprker the paper's two wrde awake reporters rushed 1n wrth a report of a brg murder We soon left the off1ce and ventured down town At Euclrd Square my attentron was attracted to a large offrce bulldrng I found out that th1s was the home of the H111 Machrne Shop Jxm H111 Manager In th1s burldmg I also found the home off1ce of Burt and Bayless Photographers and ma1n off1ce of the Cam and Cameron Constructron Company We next entered a large downtown hotel at thrs hotel were gathered some of Amer1ca's foremost men But even here I recogn1zed some of my classmates Henry Sanford a graduate of West Pomt and now Secretary of War was talkrng wrth Paul Roose and Jrm Earley two promrnent Senators from Ohro At the other end of the room I saw Dems Karlen and Denms Flugan I approached and drscovered that they were drscussrng the farm relref questron Each was a promment f1gure rn the frght for farm re re We left the room and went to the suburbs of the crty Here I saw a large srgn Fetter's Tax1 Company I approached and saw Vera Greenamyer hrs secretary callrng a cab for Capt Ed Ryser and Col W1ll1ard Whaley who were takrng a short vacatxon from duty We left Cleveland and next found myself rn Georgetown Ohro now a large metropohs Amazed at thrs sudden growth I asked the reason and was shown the off1ce of Rexchenbach Chevrolet Garage wrth Shrrley R1tchey as hrs secretary We ventured down the street and passed a theater Here lookmg at the posters I was surprrsed to see the name of Barbara Ruggles and Norma Johnson They had Just retur ed from a tour of Europe and were now playmg rn WHY GIRLS LEAVE HOME wrth Warren Sanor as leadrng man We went to the outsk1rts of Georgetown and entered a large bu1ld1ng Here there was a basketball game 1n Wh1Ch Glorra and Carol Odey were the stars They were playxng on the world s champronshrp team from Akron Just out of the c1ty I saw Davrd Herbert the foreman of the Edrson Electrrc Company supervlsmg the w1r1ng of the new plumbmg shop owned and managed by Larry Wemgart Patty Webber lrved on a near by farm She had marrred and was now a prosperous farmerette Further up the road we saw the Holloway Iurcy Frult Stand where LeRoy was sortmg frurt When we returned to the large c1ty of Damascus we found that the G H S had been enlarged I d1d not enter though for I feared I mrght meet some of my teachers At the Darly News Offxce we found Eva Nelson as edltor had made the Darly News a leadrng paper On Ma1n Street we entered Carpenter s Caddy Clothes Shop owned by Jo Ann whrch had been decorated by the great 1nter1or decorator Judy Werngart and her stylrsts Patty Beck and Kathleen Wuthnck But knowmg that some of my classmates would be foohsh enough to get marrred I v1s1ted the resr dermal drstrxct My susprcrons were correct Here I found Arla Hoffman and Barry Fowler Barry Fowler was consldered Damascus's rrchest man and owned a charn of gas statrons all over the U S - In March some of our members partrcrpated rn the Solo and Ensemble Contest at Youngstown, and on March 24th the band went to the drstrrct contest at Levrttsburg.
