! '53 elm P A rainy day in the Spring of 1972, when Mrs. Roger Stitle, formerly Doris Schneider, and her 16 year old daughter are cleaning the attic, they happen to come across an old trunk which holds her High School memories. Her daughter is looking through the pages of the 1953 Goshonian, her mother's Senior Class pictures, and is very inquisitive as to what each is doing. . The first picture she sees is of her father, Roger, who is now the owner of the Stitle Contracting and Building Co. Across fr m the picture she sees Marlene Cornett and Shirley Ann Wyss. Doris remarks that they now own the Damascus Roller Rink, where Reed Galbreath is the floor man- ager. Betty Martig is the main skating attraction. Next she sees a picture of Phyllis Maurer McNeely and her husband Carson, the high school sweethearts, who are now running the largest hotel in Patmos and are also raising their three children. The dinners are pre- pared by the world's famous chef, Lee Althouse, and his two cooks, Marylee Cameron and Bertha Swiger. Three of their attractive waitresses are Patty Close, Judy Galbreath, and Adrienne Russell. AThe doorman is H mer Marty and the two handsome bellhops are Bruce Behneryand Eldon Morckel. She sees James Stoffer's picture and remembers that he is the most popular doctor on the staff at Dead On Arrival,Hospital. His medical sec- retary is Lona Adams and one of the nurses is Mae Earley. Just completing their internships are Glenn Steer and Bill Pauley. One of the patients is Joe Rill who broke his leg when he wrecked his l972 Cadillac with Jet- O-Matic Drive. He was cited for reckless driving by State Patrolman, Dick Blasiman. A picture of one of Goshen's Style Shows catches her eye and she re- calls that Frances Baird is now ownerofthe largest model agency in Damas- cus. Her head models are Norma Mincks, Gaye Moore, and Barbara Conkle. The latest sensation in men's fashions is plastic bathing suits now being modeled by Herbert Gordon and Omar Shreve. As she turns the page, she sees Mabel Grim's picture and recollects that Mabel is now owner of a Gymnastic Center and teaches Judo and Wrestl- ing. The head instructor is George Doyle. Near the Gym Center is Shirley's Beauty Shoppe owned and operated by Shirley Bricker whose hair stylist is Orville Blythe, Jr. and the manicurist Blower Hairdryers, that dry your hair in Bowman. Leafing through the pages, a yellowed sheet of music drops from the book and brings to her mind the new musicalnhit on Broadway HKarlen'S Darlingsn starring David Myton, Norman Wilcox, Walter Townsend, and Melvin Weingart, directed by Harry Karlen. This music reminds her of the half-time ceremonies between the Damas- cus Damsels, whose star quarterback is Shirley Ruth Wyss and the Garfield Gussies, coached by Peggy Rardon.
