I 1 . . . , . 1 ' - ' s E , k 1 N Q fx' N Q 'iff' fx Class H IS tory Four long years have passed smce that memorable day of September 3 1946 when fxfty two students walked very sedately into the P reshman home room Mlss Stackhouse our understandmg sponsor helped us to become acquamted with all the new rules and requxrements of belng a Freshman For our offlcers of the year we chose Dale Wright as President Don Stratton Vnce Presxdent Gloria Wyss Secre tary and Donald Wutrxck as Treasurer In April, the class presented an Easter chap el program, whxch was well liked by all Of course, we as Freshmen, had to go through the experience of takmg the lntellxgence test Some of the more ambxttous students, took the Academlc tests and several of them went to Mount Unxon on May 3 for the Dxstrnct State Scholarship tests Our Sophomore year was one that was fxlled wxth actxvttles wtth Mr Tetlow as our sponsor This year found our class gettlng smaller with only forty two mem bers For our offlcers thls year, we chose Curt Mosher a new student, as Presl dent B1l1Stayton Vxce Presndent Rxta Edgerton Secretary and Elame Greenamyer as Treasurer It was ln our Sophomore Englxsh class that everyone was gxven the great pleasure of makmg a fxve mxnute speech before the class Beheve xt or not there were quxte a few tongue tled Sophomores The class had a hay rxde whxch was enjoyed by all despxte the ram Jumors At last we had reached the year when the Washmgt on trxp really began to mean something In order to raxse money for the trlp, we sold refreshments at the football and basketball games sold Chrxstmas cards statlonery and pen and pencil sets We also had a bake sale and collected tax stamps P mally the great day came everyone s rmg IS ldentxcal The next btg event was chooslng the class play, THE CAMPBELLS ARE COMING which was presented on March Z5 under the dzrectxon of Mrs Mary Cataland The story was about a htllbxlly famtly and xt seems to have started a lnkxng for thts type of play The officers for thxs year were Presxdent B111 Stayton Secretary Rtta Edgerton and Treasurer, Elame Greenamyer Durtng the year we also had a change of sponsors Mrs Cataland took Miss Shaff s place at the begmmng of the second semester One of the last actlvxttes of the class was a maga zlne contest, ln which Don Stratton recewed a wrxst watch as ftrst prize winner The magazme sales were over the Sl 000 goal set by the company When at last we became hxgh and mighty Seniors we had another great thrall That was bemg able to start the year m the new sectton of the school buxldnng Wtth the capable assxstance of Miss Patton, our sponsor we got through the ordeal of hav mg our ptctures taken m October Mr Dxmxt from Alliance was the photographer We recewed them tn time to send out as Christmas gxfts The class dectded to wear robes white for the gxrls and blue for the boys Our class motto was Exther fmd a path or make one the class flower the whxte rose and the class colors were blue and whtte For officers of thxs important year, Edwm Steer was elected President B111 Stayton Vxce President Slurley Bell Secretary and Ruth Stoffer Treasurer On November ll the class party was held at the home of Rxchard Dunn Games were played and an enjoyable evennng was had by all A delxcxous lunch conslstxng of turkey sandwlches cxder, and doughnuts was prepared and served by Mrs Dunn It was one party which all the Semors wxll remember 16 -9. Everyone in the class seemed to like the same ring, so 7 I ' I ' RXKF 1 H In January we ordered our announcements and voted to take a forty one passenger Greyhound bus to Washxngton It was also decxded that the group would stay at the Plaza Hotel on xts vlsxt to Washington After much dehberatxon our class play HEART TROUBLE was chosen and pre sented on Ivlarch Z4 under the dxrectlon of Miss Patton The month of Aprll went by wlthout too much happenmg And then xt was May Most of the Senxors were busy preparmg for graduation There were several Sen zors who took the Academxc test at Mount Unxon on May 6 E xnally the great day had come On May 26 our Commencement was held and as each of us had received our diplomas our mlnds had been on the trxp to Washxngton VM e were gone the three days of June 1 to the 3 17 fw 1 YR KX -Q YN fuk- QQIIVW Q' ff!!! A Nm 'v vvv 'Cm l Rfffxevt Class Prophecy On one of the warmer days ln July Mr Rudolph decxded he would tour the U mted States nn an axrplane Mr Rudolph claims he saw qunte a few of the mem bers of the 1950 class from Goshen Unxon High School One of the flrst things he noticed was the pilot Ed Steer of course you know he was aboard an Eastern Anr Lmer The beaut1fulA1r Hostess was none other than Rita Edgerton but Rita wtll become a Mrs ln the near future so she will be gxvmg up her Job While reading the newspaper on his way to Cleveland he read that R G Dunn broke the world s speed record ln typing at 198 words per mmute After he arrnved m Cleveland the home of the Indnans he saw thelr new own er, Mr Robert Grxm Bob always took to domg business 1n a big way He found Dxck Wyss the ace pltcher ln the Amertcan League Dxck was famous for the bloop er ball but h1s favorxte was the square curve He stopped to see one of the televxslon shows and some of the costumes de signed by V1rg1n1a Grlfflth The lovely model was none other than Ruth Stoffer The announcer was Paul Hostetter VV ould you have ever thought that they would have appeared on televxsxon An announcement came over the radlo that Lloyd Granger had been elected Governor of Ohio After he landed at the largest alrport ln Ohxo The Damascus Mun1cxpalA1r port the first thxng he dxd was to buy a copy of the Damascus Daxly Gosslp News the edltor was Bob Cornett Bob s mam article was about the Balfour Shorthand System Mary Lou never dxd lxke the way Mr Gregg wrote some of hls charact ers so she wrote her own system Some couldn t stay away from good old Goshen so they came back to teach Don Stratton was teachlng Economics Durlng the summer Don sold toothpaste Of course the toothpaste had been through a lot of scxentxfxc tests by the chem lstry teacher at G H S Curt Mosher Curt was also the basketball coach He coached the only undefeated team an the state of Ohlo Shxrley Bell taught Home Economxcs Shlrley traveled around the world last summer She stopped m Parts and talked to the U S Secretary of State Joseph Moore who was 1n France on business B111 Wilcox was the auctloneer at the Damascus Llvestock Auction Bxll always was such a great talker Arla Jean McBr1de was the only woman barber ln the U S Men came from all sectxons of the world to have Arla Jean gwe them a hanr cut and a shave Dale Hxleman was a braln speclallst He had his office at the Damascus K1ll em or Cure em Hospxtal Dale s head nurse was Elma Gordon Evelyn Clay had a pet farm.
