Willie Everlearn Witnesses: M. T. Head Lena Ginster CLASS HISTORY As we, the class of l94O, approach graduation let us glance back over the four years we have spent together in high school. We entered high school as freshmen in l956, and were glad to find that Mr. Jump would be our home room teacher. After initiation we elected these officers: pres- ident, John Wackg vice president, Del Court, secretary-treasurer, Martha Woolf. We had two parties besides initiation, one, a Halloween masquerade, the other, a weiner roast at Sevakeen. In the fall of l957, we chose Lowell Baker, presidentg David Long, vice presi- dentg and Martha Woolf, secretary-treasurer. Because of crowded conditions we were moved to the seventh grade room where we spent our sophomore year with Mr. Wagstaff. Our first get-together was a Halloween party at Helen Sangree's and later we had an unforgettable taffy pull at Everett Cobbs's. There were also weiner roasts at Sev- akeen and Carpenter's orchard, the latter being a treat from Mr. Alspaugh. When we entered our junior year we were determined to make enough money to go to Washington at the close of our senior year. Early in the term we chose our class rings. We sponsored various entertainments including Bluffton Choir, Collins Enter- tainment Festival and several skating parties. On March l9, the Junior Play WThe Tower Room.MysteryU was presented under Miss Spahn's direction. David long was pres- ident of the class, Lowell Baker, vice president, Jean Redman, secretarygand Eleanor Stanley, treasurer. The Spahn as hostess and an ln September l959, us. We elected Raymon Stanley, secretaryg and high-lights of the social calendar were an evening with Miss all day picnic at Idora Park. we proudly entered the senior room where Miss Patton awaited Weingart, presidentg David long, vice presidentg Eleanor Betty Birkhimer, treasurer. Our class had diminished to 51 students. During the year we enjoyed a Halloween party at Eddie Theil's and sev- eral parties at Sevakeen. As the annual goes to press we are looking forward to the senior play on May l7g Baccalaureateg May 199 Commencement, May 243 and best of all the trip to Washington. Our class has been well represented in extra-curricular activities. Several students have won honors in athletic and academic work. CLASS PROPH CY Yesterday, being New Years Day, I attended the Rose Bowl football game where Notre Dame, whose coach is Robert Becky an old schoolmate of mine, played University of Southern California. Of course, being Dean of Women here, I wanted U. S. C. to win. One of my other schoolmates, lowell Baker, now football coachl at Goshen--our Alma Mater--was also there. We decided we would recall other members of our class and find out what they were doing. . Edward Theil is now a referee here in California. He's making fine headway and gaining weight fast! Among the celebrities at the game were Maxine Wyse, star of Universal Pictures Inc. and her leading man, Robert Naylor Knot Taylorl also Isabel Blaine, New York Follies star, and her most ardent pursuer--the millionaire playboy--Clyde Hoff- master. Probably the most important member of our class is Robert Risbeck, who is run- ning for the presidency of the U. S. on the Republican ticket for l952. His sec- retary Mary Fogg, and his campaign manager, Buell Carpenter, accompany him on his tours. Also on that ticket is Raymon Weingart, who is running for U. S. senator from Ohio. He is urged on by his devoted wife--the former Gertrude Zepernick. Several members of the class are rapidly progressing in the field of music. Everett Cobbs is now bass soloist for the Metropolitan Opera Co. and his accompa- nist is Jean Redman--an accomplished piano artist. Gene Wang and Lois Sharpnack were heard over Major Bowes program last night. They are known as the Bluettes ftwin blues singersj and they received a great deal of applause. David Long, a second Tom Dewey, has recently brought charges against Frank Hoyt, Tammany Hall leader. Delmar Court is now head auctioneer at the Damascus Auction. fHe always was gifted in that line! . Several of the former students are still pursuing educational careers. Leo- nard Charlton is now President of Akron University, Eleanor Stanley is professor of foreign languages at Shaw High School in Cleveland, Ohio, and Charlotte Shreve is head of the English department at Marion College in Indiana. Joseph Wolf is an air mail pilot and is accompanied on his trips by Daniel Schmidt, his co-pilot. In the air, too, is Dorothy Behner, hostess for American Airlines Inc. The most unusual occupation is that of Walter Kimes, warden of Alcatraz Pris- on. He is kept cheerful by his wife--the former Verma Stoffer. Betty Birkhimer is now a nurse and is often referred to as a second Florgnce Nightingale. Sarah Holloway, a minister's wife, is on a world cruise accompanied by Helen Sangree, a famous horticulturist. And so each one of the class is thus happily engaged in trying to figure out the problems of his profession. SENIOR CLASS PLAY NFRECKLESN Scene: The living-room of the Duncan homestead in the Limberlost country in Indiana. The action of the play centered around a homeless orphan, Freckles, who gained the confidence of a wealthy man and the love of a young lady. SUM ARY OF GAM S The Goshen Junior High team served notice that it should be watched for in the future. The high lights of the season were the defeats given Beloit and Sebring. During the season Sebring lost only three games and Goshen can be proud that its team was responsible for two of those losses. The real test came when the team entered the Junior High Tournament held at Massillon. The boys played Akron St. Vincents the first game and after a very close battle lost.
