Keep Out IVlen Working Beginning in the spring of 1978, the long await- ed and planned for construction project got un- derway. This project not only changed the build- ing, but the typical lives of high school students as well. Throughout the year, students sidestepped boxes, construction materials, and workers to get to their classes. They shivered in barely heated rooms, walked outside to many of their classes, and stayed clear of the areas marked STU- DENTS KEEP OUT . They learned to ignore the ear-splitting noise of construction tools, found they were capable of carrying whole locker's con- tents from class to class, and avoided especially dusty or drippy places. Sometimes it was hard to belive that education was actually taking place, but students and facul- ty alike adapted very well. With laughter, accep- tance, and a spirit of camaraderie, everyone calmly ignored or dealt with construction prob- lems as they arose. It was worth it as we saw the school begin to take shape. By the end of the year, wallpaper was hung, bulletin boards were up, and restrooms were open. Brand new rooms were being used, and senior awards were pre- sented in an almost completed auditorium. The construction project dominated our school lives this year and caused many problems and changes. However, it was an experience that caused us to work together and laugh at prob- Iems, it was an experience we will not soon forget v I -..E lnilll ildll
