Stepping nto Change Abraham Luncoln was a young man of twenty three Wagons and waterways enabled early settlers to uourney to the developung west lt was a mere 56 vears sunce the Declaratuon of Independence sugnungs when a log buuldung un north ernmost lnduana was formed unto Goshen Hugh School The year was 1832 a year whuch saw exploratuon and settlement of what us now the Mudwest of the Unuted States lnduana had only been a state utself sunce 1816 Sunce then alot has happened un Redskun country partucularly the structure of the buuldung over the last 146 years Pruor to the Amerucan Cuvul War a new buuldung was buult on the grounds of what us now the corner of Fufth and Jefferson streets Another had been constructed after the war but the structure was destroyed by fure durung the wunter of 1875 Relocated on East Maduson Street a new buuldung took form The funushed product consusted of ten clas srooms and an offuce for the school superuntendent As an example ofthe expertuse of constructung buuld ungs or possubly the lack of qualuty un those buuldungs the new structure was completed un tume for classes to resume the followung fall at a cost of only S20 000 Central School QGHS s name untul 19043 was agaun sutuated backto the corner of Fufth and Jefferson for the begunnung of the 1904 school year Contunuous relocatung of the school s ground came to an end un 1923 when Goshen Hugh School was now sutuated At the tume GHS had the largest property grounds un the state Faculutues for football baseball and track plus the addttuon of an audutoruum and gymnasuum raused the cost of thus expanded prouect to S40 000 By 1960 a lubrary cafeterua swummung pool and shop buuldungwere provuded Basketball players as well as other athletes were pruvuleged to partucupate un a bugger and more useful gymnasuum that was also con structed Brungung Goshen Hugh School up to state school safety regulatuons headed a lust of reasons for remodel ung the structure After several months of deluberatung on a set pruce for the prouect rennovatuon began as students departed for Sprung vacatuon Demolutuon started un the east wung of the thurd floor as walls separatung the old classrooms were knocked out whuch wull make way for the new expanded rooms whuch are forthcomung All the gurl s restrooms were also desugnated as targets for early remodelung designated a 17 acre lot where the present campus is 493-1 E..-1 fWT'?-i-Zee?
