BAND CELEBRATE9 50th YEAR The special 50th anniversary Goshen High School band con- cert was attended by about 1,500 persons May 14, 1971. Among those in attendance were 12 of the 17 living members of the first GHS band in 1920-1921 school year. Former direc- tor R. A. Brinklow was introduced and directed one number and Noble Brown, brother of the late Cecil Brown, first conductor, also was introduced. Mary Smucker received the John Philip Sousa Award and Mary Yost received the first Max Williams Jazz Award. Director Robert Sharpe named Principal John G. Johnson, Superintendent Charles E. Fields, and David Williams, R. A. Brinklow and Joseph Erskine as honorary band members. Mr. Plank instructs the band in the warm-ups before the concert. 1 . -.4 ,if cf.-H '- Q Everyone had to put forth his best effort to present a good concert The audience and the band stood for the Star Spangled Banner.
