Thomas J Starr The Goshen Hugh School graduating class of 1951 may claum the sole dlstnnctlon of bemg the First to graduate under Pruncupal Thomas J Starr Mr Starr who was born In Jay County Indiana came to our school In 1945 to serve In the guudance department He not only filled thus capacity very eftlcuently but also taught ln the sclence and history departments Mr Starr attended Portland Hugh School then furthered has educatlon at Ball State Teachers Col lege Two years later he was teaching a small enght grade country school of forty seven pupils tHe was the Ianltor tool He attended summer sessions at Ball State untll he received hs Bachelor of Arts degree Extension work at Purdue Umverslty and He next taught at Portland .lunlor Hugh School three years and Portland Sensor Hugh School sux years Between the 46 and 47 school terms Mr Starr obtained hrs principals license at the Umverslty of Wlsconsm Although a tlne teaching career lles behind our new prmclpal opportunity and advancement await ahead The lob of prlncnpal In a community hugh school IS Important and not easy however If this past school year has been any lndlcatuon we the class of 51 feel certain that Thomas .l Starr has many more successful years ahead 16 . . . i Ball State Teachers' College brought Mr. Starr his M.
