Block Student Union ji? l ' Volleyball rTlOrO1hOh Ebony Voices members Jacqueline Buck, Lillian Sogga. and Chrystal Preston The Negro should not be judged by the heights to which he has risen, but by the depths from which he has climbed. Debra Ray echoed the words of Frederick Douglass in her con- vocation address tha began Black History Week on February 8, 1982. Other events of the week included a presentation of a skit, Zero - The Invisible Man on a Missing Page, writ- ten by BSU president, Jacqueline Buck, and a Chapel led by the Ebony Voices, under the direction of Yvonne Young. Also that week, students tasted tradi- tional black ethnic foods at a special cafeteria dinner. In addition to Black History Week in- volvement, BSU held a fall volleyball marathon to raise money for the Ingrid Curry Scholarship Fund, a grant for in- coming black social work majors. The organization also met regularly for banquets and informal get-togethers. BSU is a necessary support group be- cause we are such a small minority on campus, said Jacqueline Buck. We meet to share problems and deal with campus concerns. We also try to help freshmen adjust to Goshen, and we've been working to get international blacks to join with American blacks in the BSU. ,f Debra Ray
