Communicators Tackle Projects The Communication Department finished a successful, productive year. The industrious drama sector performed several fine plays- The Lark, Impromptu, The Proposal, Emperor's New Clothes, The Dumb Waiter, To Walk in the Way, Show of Hands, No Exit, and the Sign Language group put on Show of Hands. An added attraction was a dinner theater production of Arms and the Man. In December, Professor Stephen Shank delivered a dramatic interpretation of Revalation which was so well received that he gave an encore performance in the spring. The broadcasting sector of the department, WGCS, honored its founder at a coming-of- age celebration during alumni weekend. The station also seized that opportunity to christen a new, higher powered stereo transmitter installed this year. The Record and Maple Leaf staffs also learned to use new equipment. A Compugraphic system, coordinated with the information Services office, allowed students to set their own type. DIVISION I-Humanities Language Interest Increases The Foreign Language Department experienced a resurgence of interest among students this year. The department graduated 18 majors, an all- time high. Increased enrollment in classes was attributed in part to special SST units such as those in Poland, Germany and China. Gerhard Reimer, professor of German, returned to Germany to renew a German studies program. The program was last active in the spring of 1972. If all goes well, the department expects to begin another German study unit in the spring of 1981. E F55 tw: 1' i rt S .
