Leafs Snap otre Dame Winning Streak U I The 1978 Goshen soccer season came to a close with a fairly respectable record of 12 wins, 3 losses and a tie. For the third consecutive year Goshen won their District 21 Championship, thus qualifying for the Area Tourney. The team reached this position through a combination of offensive power and defensive containment. Giving up an average of one goal per game, Goshen's defense was ranked eighth in the National Association Intercollegiate Athletics fNAIAJ. The two high scorers. Jay Moyer and Paul Sawatsky accounted for 27 goals and Zl assists of the 42 goals and 43 assists achieved by the team as a whole, earning each a spot on the Mideast All Star Team. One of the highlights of the year for all the team members was the win over Notre Dame, snapping their 26-game winning streak and helping deny them a bid for the NCAA playoffs. Overall I think the whole team had a great time and yet were serious enough about it to put in a great season. Paul Sawatsky Goalie Daryl Groff shuts out one more attempted goal shot.
