lust what are you, Goshen College? Where is it you're going? ls your goal really a definable one? Can what you are possibly be put into words? People sure do try-hovv many well- meant words have been written and spoken in the effort? Some come close to capturing a little of your spirit-but just a little, only affording a glimpse of the multi-faceted entity that is Goshen. You can't be described in the words of a single person, because no one can understand and really represent the motley mixture of personalities that are responsible for making you whatever it is that you are. You include so many people from such different places-their collective expe- rience is amazing, and you go out to so many places too, places often elusive to those who remain on the campus. But if you take all of these essential peo- ple, the scholars and the clowns, serene and perpetually lost, the earnest ones and those 'wholly irreverent, and you calendar their year through their own words and images, maybe then you can come close to expressing just what Goshen is. With camera and with pen, vve tried to record the year for you.

fi V it o, n 0 . . .Now that the initial excitement of being back at GC again after months of travel has worn off, school is starting to seem unreal, irrevelant, and at times almost useless. I know that much of what I'm learning may be used later, but I yearn to be doing something that brings results and satisfaction now. At one time ambition would have been suf- ficient energy and reward, but Goshen Gol- lege, much of education, humanity, and sometimes even life itself is getting to be old hat and has lost its mystique. I see more and more that mystique is the stuff of ambition. january journal entry Dear Mary I ve been back in Goshen for two weeks now at times at has seemed like an eternity wishing I would have stayed in Iapan or South Korea I was so anxious to return but now I must adjust to a new life here one that I did not expect or prepare for My old friends are gone graduated moved on to other locations New faces have taken their places I keep reminding myself of the happi ness I had found here in Goshen before I am sure if I keep searching tearing down walls and baring myself open to the yoy and heartache of new relation ships that my life in Goshen will again take on a positive meaning Meanwhile I m searching through the rubble I , .
