The I973 Maple Leaf has tried to incorporate several new ideas in its pages with out destroying the tradition that has been set by former books. Several of the traditions that have been continued are: 15 The cover was designed by a GC art student Cthis year by Jim Kingl: 21 Faculty, staff and student mug snot sections have remained similar to former yearsg 31 The advertisement section has new lettering and content in places, but remains very similar to other years in overall appearance tand the 353,220 income from the 81 advertisers of this section helps insure that there will be a 1974 Maple Leafj. Some of the ideas new to Goshen College yearbooks are: 15 Photo stories that need a minimum of copy to tell what happenedg 25 The section called Juxtaposition that gives a sense of perspective and history to our lite togetherg 33 The products of the photogra- phy class that show how students communicate visually. The l973 Maple Leaf has tried to give its audience something to react to. This reaction may be frightening to some, but we feel that to live, a publication must have give and take, such as the Becord experienced as they grapped with the marijuana issue The I973 Maple Leaf has experienced cooperation and freedom: Cooperation from many of the people whose pictures appear tapologies to those who were on some of the 4,000 photos that were not chosen-we ran out of spacejg freedom to express what we felt tJohn Lapp, Bruce Martin, the group on the title page, housing groups- none tried to censor what we were expressingj.
