I am a stranger here the twilight crept across our evening song the faces of my friends fled into shadows as the strange sad tones fell dimly - througa the gloom I am a stranger everywhere the nighttime isolated each within. N ' the haunting melody and lonely words which wrapped us - inthe mysteries that even friends don't share I am a stranger here among the faces that I donot know that talk and smile look'away I say I 'don't know you what's your name but knowing still won't know ' Q ll I am a stranger everywhere I have not been there how can I belong when I have been nowhere beyond my people's world and everywhere is much too wide to hold me in V its care I would go home from all the faces I can never know to all the people I remember still except I think they've gone away perhaps they've saved my place I . somewhere But l'm a stranger there . N N'-Q-., Mi -f-... ?

There were fuzzy caterpillars two black stripes around a brown one Everywhere at the dying of the year And we held them in our hands watched delighted as they scrambled up our arms And made them glass-jar houses With hole-punched tinfoil roofs and lots of leaves to eat and twigs to climb We saw the way they built Their snug cocoons and did our best to save them until spring But our care was never quite enough They always died during the winter sleep spring shook the world awake but they slept on And yet as each year aged away We played in ever-fresh delight laughing at the sillies who didn't dare to touch them I saw one crawling on the road today And stopped to watch it ripple by then wandered on did not look back again ' l watched but did not touch it I do not hold caterpillars anymore and neither do l save them in glass jars
