Our faces speak of an odyssey woven of now decisions, moments ofliberation, sighs ofhad it-ness, carefree frivolity, inward probings. All ofus, interpreters oflife. We wondered what would make this year. On election day we went fishing, trying to ignore the political gloom that stifled the outside world and crept into our little community. We read the headlines- Nixon, Columbia riots, the Czechoslovakian invasion Apathy froze us inside ourselves. The silent majority reigned. Frustration pushed against our walls of inhibition. We mobbed the dorms. We rocked and souled. And we found that our moods changed from disillusionment to laughter and absurdity to love and peace and back and forth up and down. From each other we learned new tensions and new harmonies, sensing that the people ofthis year were a part of our search for truth- as it were. y Rx u Qlmxq TX f'..':-'M 1 U - I +8 Qin I lm 75 years old and appearing a bit bewildered- Goshen College sporting a new sumptuous library and an assortment of new and old hang-ups. We were educated but useless. We raised some money to help: we fasted, donated, had a benefit concert. If v Goshen College in 1909: North Hall. Administration Building, Kulp Hall The Apocalypse! North Hall in flames! Apropos to the ending of an explosive year. Run like the blazes to watch. Everyone is there reminiscing and eulogizing GC's oldest building. Sort ofa campus landmark. Built in 1903, surrounded by wheat shocks, it originally stood just east ofthe Ad Building. During its lifetime it housed faculty families and married students, class lectures and student pranks, men and mice. We remembered it for Spouter: coffee house sings, checkers, the paint room. North Halleold and quaint and rambling. They were going to tear it down this summer. But we were glad it went spontaneously. And again they said Alleluia. And her smoke rose up for ever and ever. HRevelaIion 19:3 After four years we stand smothered in black shrouds, tassles tickling, bleating for our sheepskins. The denouement seems rather absurd. But we have an ambiguous understanding that Goshen has changed, created, metamorpholated us. The relevant question now seems to be: where do we go from here? 102 TV has . 5? 6 I !n.... .xi 5 - .1fASg' .sfngl N, , tx Ja Q pd -:ik xv - ' ,vffQg5'3+::. ,ar 5'Q,g,Xf,..1,35Q.Q,, :J , l.
