END OF A YEAR... Beginning of a book . . . The end of any ordinary school year, in some ways. As ordinary, that is, as life can be when nine hundred people share ten acres of land. Ten acres to absorb the shocks of literary compe- tition, earth-shaking bull sessions, quiet de- cisions with lifetime effects and the rumblings of academically eager pencils. More than nine hundred busy little worlds circulating on the same few acres. Each has his own impression of hours and days that he calls School Year 1955-56. Each has his own inter- pretation of the knocks and jolts that have come because he dared to expose his little sphere to the scrutiny of other worlds--professor worlds and buddy worlds. Some have risked accepting new ideasg others had the fortitude to slow their own pace and have experienced the rewards and pains of involvement with brother worlds. There is something about a chronicle which defies all attempts at a complete story of the involvement of hundreds of worlds on ten acres. Writers of chronicles are only limited spheres themselves. They can only suggest . . . details must be added to fit the pattern of each little world that was part of Goshen College 1956.
