HIGHLIGHTING THE 1955-56 Lecture- Music series was the appearance of the Indianapo- lis Symphony Orchestra under the direction of lzler Solmen lbelowi. Their program included Bee- thoven's Fidelio Overture and Symphony Number 4 by Tchaikovsky. The L-M series had opened three weeks earlier with an address by Norman Cousins, Saturday Review Editor. NOT ALL THE MUSIC heard on campus was imported, by any means. Students interested in creating their own music joined the Music Club ltop righti. Their activities ranged from singing madrigals to studying jazz. President of the Music Club was Ernest Hostetler, senior music major. Others who appreciatethetine arts were members of the Language Arts Club lbelow righti. lrmgard Klassen presided over this organization, whose members consider reading poetry and sipping tea an ideal way to spend a cold fall evening. LIKE PILGRIMS wending their way toward Canterbury, Homecomers returned to Goshen Col- lege for the Thanksgiving season. At the Tabard lnn in Southwerk, London, students and guests enjoyed a Thanksgiving dinner of alle deyntees that men koude thynke. The atmosphere seemed more authentic because of the lilting madrigals sung by the Nlorely Singers, a group of students particularly interested in old English music. Speeches and good-natured banter of the traditional after-dinner program were centered around the Canterbury theme. Alumni teams bowed to the varsity Friday after- noon as they were defeated in both the men's and women's basketball games. The spiritual tone of the festivities was em- phasized at the Lecture-Music concert Thanksgiving evening when Roland Hayes, world famous tenor, included in his selections familiar negro spirituals. A sacred concert by the combined college choruses ended another Homecoming at Goshen College.
