DESTINY 1985 to unpathed waters, undreamed shores A Only as far as we seek . .. l c x c Only as far as we dream . . . . . . can we ever overcome If we can imagine it, . . . . . . we can accomplish it. If we can dream it, . . . we can become it The important thing is not where we stand . . . . . . but the direction in which we move. We all reach the future at the rate of 60 minutes per hour . . aje a v oq v jaiieui ou ‘op a v jei|M jaweiu ou The future is our destiny. We are ready for it. FACULTY FACULTY Dedication To The Man Who Urges Us To Reach For Infinity!” Mr. Donald Lyons He is a person who has earned admiration and respect from his students and fellow faculty members. He demands excellence in the classroom and receives it from his students. He has been head of the math department for twenty years, and has been the advisor to the Goshen High School Math Team for this same length of time. During those twenty years, the Math Team has captured the divisional championship seventeen times out of nineteen attempts, a record we can all be proud of. He is an individual who gives us aid, challenges us, and stimulates our interest in math. And so, for twenty-eight years of fine teaching, we proudly dedicate the 1985 Destiny” yearbook to Mr. Donald L yons. 18 Central Administration Mr. James English President Mrs. Sally Littlefield Vice President Mrs. Martha Bogart Mrs. Joyce Cook Mrs. Judith Green Mrs. Gail Cunard Secretary to Superintendent C. Timothy Blood Drive This year on February 7th. the seventh ANNUAL COMMUNITY BLOOD DRIVE was held in the Goshen High School gym. One-hundred fifteen donors signed up to donate, and we were able to obtain ninety-four pints. Students seventeen years and older were eligible to donate for the first time. It was a combined effort of all grades 9-12 to make the drive a success. We needed volunteers to sign up students at lunchtime, put up posters, help the day of the drive, etc. Certificates are then given out on Class Day to the volunteers and this is also stated on their permanent record cards in Guidance. A lot of work for a worthy cause. A pint of blood is a gift of life! STUDENT A Pint Of Blood Is A Gift Of Life Allen, Geralyn Andolina. Sara Andrews. Reynell Andry, Michelle Annese. David August. The teams progressed steadily throughout the season. They participated in various invitational such as the Westlake Invitational, the Manhattan Invitational and more. They both ended the season well with good performances from everyone. The season was very successful for the new Goshen Boys' Cross-Country Team and the Goshen Girls' Cross-Country Team. The Goshen Girl’s Varsity Tennis Team recently completed a winning season with an overall record of seven victories and six losses. The team was captained by senior. Wendy Butensky, who completed four highly successful seasons by finishing third in the Orange County Invitational Tournament, and then advanced to the quarterfinals of the Section IX tourney. Wendy was ably assisted in singles play by Cindy Dillenbeck, a freshman, and juniors. Jill Delamater. and co-captain. Jennifer Hopkins. Outstanding doubles players were freshmen. Kristen Watkins and Tamara Realmuto. who captured nine wins against only two defeats. Another freshman. Valerie Warren, and senior. Vicki Scott, showed much improvement during the season, finishing with four wins and only one loss. Sophomores. Carolyn Romano, Tracy Fink. Anne Striphas. Melissa Rivkin, and senior. Michelle Soroka, also made important contributions. A total of thirty girls comprised this year’s tennis team. Each one deserves much credit for the team’s success. They attended practice faithfully, worked hard, and encouraged their teammates at all times. Unfortunately. Goshen does not have a junior varsity tennis program, so many of the girls were unable to gain valuable competitive experience, but with the positive attitudes displayed this season, several will be seriously competing for varsity positions next year. f 49 n 83 Boys’ Basketball Enjoys Fine Season The Glads dropped an exciting contest to Burke Catholic to end the most successful Goshen season in years. We finished 16-5 and were OCL Playoff finalists for the 4th consecutive year. As a team which relied on defense throughout the year, our offense was finally exploited during tournament time. We could only muster a 36% field goal efficiency over our last 3 games. We had balance which may not be matched in the OCL again until the 31st century. Any of our players could step in and be productive. But not one of our players could surface as the one we could go to , when the chips were down.. Light of our players averaged 4 or more points a game, yet only Jon Merritt averaged in double figures. (13.7). Our spirit, competitiveness, and ability to follow directions, made us a very efficient unit. There was no question that we got the best out of our collective abilities. We entered Goshen High School under the leadership of President Kelly Ouderkirk, Vice President Reid Breckwoldt, Secretary Lori Riordan. and Treasurer Cherie Wierzbicki. We were known as the richest class in the history of Goshen High School thanks to our Jewelry sale in which we raised 3,300 dollars (Thanks Randy!). Will we ever forget Dr. Eurich and his savages? The tradition of Freshman Friday was abolished after John Stramiello got his nose broken. Cyn and Jen make the twirling squad. John Cristiano made his opinion of Mr. Maduras’ 9H English class clear when he was asked to use the word discourse” in a sentence. Debbie Dillenbeck opened her locker on April I only to find a dripping dead fish so kindly placed there by Pam Hoerup and Bekcy Coates. We proudly slaughtered the Senior class in the last field day ever played at the high school. Our Freshman class effortlessly lost spirit with theme of Hagar the Horrible”. Take off you hoser”. Sophomore Year We began our Sophomore Year with our leaders as Nancy Kolman, Reid Breckwoldt, Bob Siracuse, and Jim Thompson. Effortlessly we succeeded in losing the magazine drive. Due to the intelligence” of the audience, Mr. Assa-lian demonstrated his new vocabulary and sent everyone back to class from the Frosh Soph bowl leaving the teams to battle it out unspectated. By the way, we crushed them! The Varsity Girls' Soccer Team, with the help of Bob Siracuse was the first singles player from CC to win the Section 9 Tennis title. Cyn and Jen improve in their twirling skills and prove it at the pep rally. Nick Sheboy was the new kid on the block. The German Soccer Team invaded Goshen, peacefully- Elmer taught us how much fun you can have with chalk. Effortlessly, we lost Spirit Week again with the theme of Superman”. Gag me with a spoon.” Junior Year Once again we were led by an entirely different set of class officers. For our Junior year we elected Todd Sargeant for President, Bob Siracuse for Vice President, Candy Green for Treasurer, and Chris DePuy for Secretary. Instead of a German invasion, this year we were peacefully invaded by Welchkins. Through the success of their team, the Volleyball team went to their first Sectionals. As a result of the ravenous appetites of Goshen Track, Mickey D’s went up in flames. Believe it or not, Cyn and Jen still provided half-time entertainment. Mr. T overestimates our class and gets a lesson on becoming a lawn doctor”. Effortlessly, the Junior class lost Spirit Week after being given the ultimately awful theme of the Greek and Roman Empire. Where’s the beef?” History History History Senior Year Under the hard work of our leaders Todd Sargent, John Cristiano, Jim Thompson, and John Kim, we, for the second time, effortlessly lost the magazine drive. The first day of school, the Hawaiian style was the in” look. David Bally went around breaking everyone’s ora during Mr. T’s Psych class. Reid’s backflips after every home soccer game, dances, etc. became a tradition. We continued our interesting experiences in fast food restaurants when the Varsity Girls’ Soccer Team was banned from Pizza Hut (along with the rest of Goshen). Speaking of soccer, our Varsity Boys’ Soccer Team won the Conference Title, County Title, Section IX Title, and State Championship. Nice going guys! Our Senior class started Goshen's first Cross-Country track team. We all made a special friend. Katrin Hansen. Cyn and Jen finally retire their batons (Lucky usl) Girls Varsity Soccer beats Washies.
