man Within a very few days after the opening of 'the.aschcol year Coach Dunn called all boys interested in baseball T out for practice. This squad of boys numbered about 3C with such veteran letter-men as Bill Butler, P. J. Demster, Mink Mank- en, H. L. Clendenin, Ikey Rutherford, Bill Gale, and Bill Kno ke making it hard for the younger players to attract attent- ion. After a week of practicing, the squad was decreased to 18 boys and the holes left in the team by graduation were be- ing filled with youngster. This year we didn't get to have the two Wolf Lake games preceding our regular conference schedule, as we have been having for years, consequently, the team went into action ag- ainst Campbell Hill without having had any warm up games to settle their nerves. When the game was over everyone realiz- ed that we had had a very good game, that C'Hill had a 'good team, and that we had lost by the score of 4 to 2. 'V Having lost the first game of the season, Coach Dunn ma- de a couple of changes in his team and the second game of the year against Ava saw Butler, catching, Clendenin, pitching,Kn oke at first base, Newfarmer at second base, Rutherford atfsh ort stop, Demster at third base, Gale in the field, Manken in center field and Grace in right field. In beating Ava by a big score this team showed so much power at the plate and fie lding ability that it took the field as the starting team in most of the remaining games. The next game, which was played at Cobden, saw pArbeiter starting on the mound. Demster finished the game as ppitcher as Arbeiter was pulled for a pinch hitter in the 4th inning. We won this game by a score of 5 to 2 in the first 'half of the last inning after two were out and two strikes were on the batter, When we went to Grand Tower the pitching assignment was given to Demster, and he accounted for himself by ' 'pitching our team to a 15 to l victory, It was in the sixth 'inning that Grand Tower managed to'get their only hit and run of the game, The next five games found the Gorham team performing lib ke the Yankees of the Western Egyptain High School Conferences as they defeated Ava, Grand Tower, Vergennes twice, and Cobden by scores. The last and deciding game of the year was played at Camp bell Hill on a cold rainy day. The team still looked like the Yankees but they were the Yankees on an off day. The game end ed 2 to O in favor C'Hill. This victory for C'Hill made them undefeated conference champions, leaving Gorham in second pla Ceo P ' Q9

Since you may have your Gorannum by May l4, the date of the Activity Banquet, I won't dare say that We did thus and so, and a good tina was had by all. We are, nevertheless, anticipating a pleasant evening wherever it may be held. At the present the arrow seems to be pointing toward the Royal Neighbor Hall at Jones Ridge. At this banquet it is always our customs at present intel- lectual and athletic letters earned during the current year. Our regular conference contests, other than athletic, 'have been suspended because of the tire rationing programgconsequently, the number of letters will be greatly diminished. f'N g 5 ,,.e, E 5 1 I T f f ' L... 4 f This year a new club, known as the G.Men, has been organ- ized.
