C RM 'Z' - I Trp iggigifgiggkb' fxq fxJ ouifsehooi for the first time in its history has a Queen of Classes. She is to reigr as queen until the Activity Queen is crowned at the Activity Banquet. A candidate was selected by each class to compete for the queenship. These girls chosen were: Betty McNeill, fresh- man, June Kempfer, sophomoreg Joan Kessel, juniorg and Geneva iDunn, senior. Each class campaigned with untiring effort for its candidate. The spirit of the campaign was spread through the school by beautiful posters and a courageous soliciting of votes. The lucky candidate, Miss Joan Kessel, was elected by votes cast at the Hallowe'en carnival held in the gym- nasium. With each purchase of a nickle or more a ballot was given. This ballot contained the names of the candidates, and the votes were computed on equal basis with' the amount of the purchase. Miss Kessel was crowned at a very impressive ceremony, which took place at the basketball game on January 9th. The throne was elaborately decorated with the patriotic colors, red, white, and blue. She was escorted up to the throne by the junior class president, Teddy Phillips. Miss Ruth Brad- shaw, the retiring Activity Queen, carried in the crown which was placed on Miss Kessel's head by ' Teddy Phillips. The queen's attendents, the other candidates, were escorted in by their respective officers. Bill McNeill, freshmang Richard O'Daniel, sophomoreg and Walter Porter, senior. 42 '
