That is exactly what is staring Betty Lou Maxwell square in the face. Sister Connie goes with the fellows right and left and little brother Wilbur is running his legs off clear to his shoulders, but Betty Lou stays at home. No fun, no fellows, no nothin’. But best friend Bernadine comes up with the idea to stop all ideas. If Betty Lou could be kidnapped — that’s right kidnapped. She could have everything her own way in a down-hill pull. So they put their heads together, write a ransom note, stick it to a wall with a ice-pick, and Bernadine sneaks Betty Lou out and over to her house. Well, exactly according to plans, Mama and Papa are frantic, and, according to plans, they say if Betty Lou were only back, they would be oh so lenient. Precisely according to plans, Betty Lou awaits the big moment for her dramatic entrance. But — and this wasn’t scheduled, Elmer and Muggsy, a couple of none-too-bright, would be robbers come rummaging through the house, looking for the ransome money. They spot Betty Lou, and low and behold, Bernadine is frantic. She tells Mama and Papa Maxwell, but they won’t believe her because they’ve just found out that the girls made the whole thing up. Sounds heart stopping? It is. Even little brother Wilbur gets kidnapped and everything is thrown into turmoil — that includes the whole play itself as kidnappers, and kidnapped, frantic parents, and laughs galore parade in and out at every door. The court was presented at the halftime of the Reserve game. While Mrs. Lynne Long played the music, the official court was announced and presented. Last year’s Queen, Kathy Bacon, and King, Tracy Valentine, were on hand for the official crowning. The imperial couple was Queen Sherrie Shay and King Brian Fruchey. After the game was won, the cake and punch were served. The disc jockey, Tom Franks, a former student and grad of GFHS, did the honors playing popular tunes. All in all, it was a grand evening in Fayette’s High School Gymnasium. This is a youthful comedy cruise that has laughs coming faster than torpedos. Tom Butterworth is determined to be the youngest - cruise ship captain in history, even if this means sailing on a coverted gunboat named Vengence with a crew of rejects from the Maritime High School, and a trio of girl singers who are passing themselves off as a famous show biz act. No wonder the engineer is seasick and the cruise hostess is pulling her hair in frustration. What about the passengers? There’s a fabulous Hollywood star, Honey Hotchkiss, who is determined to star in GONE WITH THE WIND, PART TWO — only the producer would sooner walk the plank. A clumsy pair of thieves, a lady who loves pets but is allergic to fur, a non-stop jogger and a gungho nurse who practices giving hypos by stabbing oranges — and anything else that’s handy. To ’ top it off, there’s a hijacking at sea by a misguided group of pirate loonies. If this isn’t enough to sink the Titantic, there may be a shark in the pool. There is definitely a storm and a mud bank that proves unfriendly. One other thing — the ship has no insurance. However, by the final curtain, it’s all romance on the high seas and hilarity. It was held on May 5, 1984. Following a fancy dinner and the readings of “I Remember Whens”, the prophecies, and wills, room was made for the dance. The music was provided by a disc jockey from WRQN (93 V2), Bowling Green. Afterwards the participants congregated at Napoleon to see Never Cry Wolf”. Then they headed to Wauseon for some mid-morning bowling. Afterwards the remaining survivors came back to the gym for a breakfast sponsored by the seniors. The teachers, though who may seem strict, were always there to help. I will miss Athletic events, where everyone came together to back our school. When I first came up to the high school I thought it would be an eternity before I graduated. Then suddenly after the senior trip it hit me, “I have graduated. “Where have those years gone,” I thought to myself. Now I am out in the real world, not shaded by my parents protection. After school was out I came back and walked into the lounge. I could still hear the voices and see the seniors in there. It brought a smile to my face. Then I became depressed; those days were gone but not forgotten. That's something that no one can take from us, our memory of each other. Though time and distance may separate us, our hearts won’t. “Some of the people with whom I graduated, I may never see again,” I said to myself. We have to go our separate ways, but we will all be together again someday. Most of all I think I will miss that special someone. The person that makes me smile, happy and glad to be alive. Everyone has a special person in their heart that makes them feel this way. I will never forget those days spent at Fayette. I wouldn’t trade them for anything. ... Jeff Huffman
