Just look how our town has changed! A water treatment plant was added right outside the park. We also got a swimming pool and street lights to eliminate the dark. We acquired a new tennis court and a new trailer court too. We fixed up our old opera house and made it look brand new. The stores along the main street got a whole new look. The sidewalks are safe to walk on now and worth the time it took. + GYMNASIUM ROOMS 101-104 HAFFTFRIA CAFETERIA TREASURER, BO. OF ED. The flower shop on College Street adds a bright new touch. We look at the changes and know why we like our town so much. Our softball marathon in May makes our town friendly, and stays that way. .. The people here are nice and caring and kind. A town like this is hard to find. So we look back with pride at the shape that our town took, and to the town of Fayette, Ohio, we dedicate this book. Student Life Eddie Eagle — The Birdbrain Behind School Spirit A new addition to our school this year was the mascot eagle named Eddie. Gretchen Wilson (in the bottom right picture) was the main person under the costume, although Lynn Goble (in the upper right picture) and Nancy Schaffner also helped fill the role as substitutes immensely. They all assisted to boost school spirit and morale. GFHS would be a very dull place without spirit and Eddie was a chief supplier. We'll be looking forward to Eddie the mascot next year, as he she flaps along to increase FAYETTE EAGLE POWER! Student Lite l 11 mi SYNOPSIS Junior Class Presents The Magic Touch Student Lite Bobbette Braddock is a dyed-in-the-wool” tomboy who plays football with the Dirty Dozen team. She arranges for the Annual Fashion Show to be held in their home and for Bobbette to model a darling gown. To her mother’s disbelief, Bobbette refuses to have any part of it. The Dirty Dozen” team becomes a lovesick bunch when Frieda Fisher comes on the scene, which only adds to Bobbette's troubles. It A good yearbook should be many things — a record of the school year, a pictoral scrapbook off memories, a lasting momento of the academic, athletic, and organizational achievements, and a$. tool for future reference. The 1980 Eagle Hi-Life staff, though relatively novices in yearbook pro-jt ,'duction, has attempted to produce a book of lasting quality. It is impossible to estimate the number! of hours of hard work and dedication that went into this book. The annual has taken on a new looli | this year with the development of a theme, a consistent lay-out, greater use of copy, headlines, and captions, athletic score boxes, a high school student index, a natural color section of senior por-% traits with a senior directory, a calendar of the year’s events in chronological order, a pictoral open-f ing dedicated to the town of Fayette, and a new look to the advertisement pages. tit seems fitting for us, the yearbook advisors, to take this opportunity to thank those people who played a big part in the production of this book: Editor-in-Chief Kathy Phillips, who devised the| clever opening dedication; Managing Editor Juli Cochran, who created the division pages; Photog-raphy Editor Lisa Shadbolt, Lay-Out Editor Alice Strayer, and Copy Editor Barb Strayer, who coor-1 dinated their various tasks with others; Sports Editor Kay Bacon, Organizations Editor Georgia Guerrero, Index Editor Brenda Rice, Student Life Editor Jean Seiler, and Class Editor Marcia Tow-; «rs, who each headed their special sections with the assistance of Chris Aeschliman, Connie Potter, Brett Scott, Terri Whaley, and Jeanine White; Typists Laurie Lumbrezer and Suzy Wilson, with-■ out whose help the book would not have made it to the printer; Business Managers Melissa Knisely, Brent Snow, and Lisa Lumbrezer, who supervised ad sales, yearbook purchases, and the publication of the ad section; and a special thanks to Jim Ballmer, who designed the “folio shoes” 1 ‘ that carried out our 1980 theme, Steppin’ Up to a New Decade.” I We would also like to thank several others who gave special assistance throughout the year: | Lawrence Armstrong and James Short, who both took special pictures for the book and deserve ; photo recognition; Ed Pendergrast, our Woodard Photographer at Bellevue, Ohio; Steve White, our : i representative from Taylor Publishers in Dallas. Texas; our many advertisers and patrons who gave.. Eg both money and support; our school administration, faculty, personnel, student body, parents, and-§ community supporters who allowed the Hi-Life staff to capture a little part of the 1979-1980 school year. We hope you enjoy the book and will continue to support the Eagle Hi-Life in the future. Martha Mitton Business Advisor Student Lite IF YOU CAN IMAGINE. YOU CAN ACHIEVE IF YOU CAN DREAM.
