CLASS HISTORY In the year 1940, the circus troupe of '52 began its twelve year climb to the top of the Big Top. The following were the original members of the troupe: Harvey Bacon, Mary Baldwin, Dean Bates, Mary Beaverson, Martha Borton, Merle Boyd, Delores Brackman, Bill Davis, Lyle Dopp, Delbert Felkey, Paul Ford, Carolyn Fruchey, Robert Gallup, Charles Hausch, Harold Keefer, Dorothy Lukens, Larry Long, Nora Mae Nash, Vernon O'Brien, Mildred Severence, Nancy Vernier, Gene Wilson and William Stites. Miss Wiseman was the first ring mistress. Miss Christensen replaced Miss Wiseman as the ring Mistress in the second year of our seasonal performance. Norville Cramer, Jack Jewell, Robert Layman, Doyce Merrillat, and Betty Calvin replaced Harvey Bacon, Bill Davis, Lyle Dopp, Vernon O'Brien, Mildred Severence, and William Stites on the circus roster. Bill Davis returned to the ranks again, for the third season on the road; and Junior Miller added his name to the list of stars. During the year, Evelyn Baldwin and Nancy Vernier withdrew. Miss LaSalle was the manager this year. The fourth year, Mrs. Fisher took over the job of training the twenty-three members of the troupe. Gerald Kuney, Mary Lou Uhler, Wanda Wollett, and Barbara Griffin joined the list of performers this year. The group lost Delbert Felkey, Robert Layman and Charles Hausch. The fifth season the circus stopped at Fayette, it was headed by a new proprietress, Miss Hazel Robinson. The new members this year were Len Mitchell and Howard Foster. Mrs. Marjorie Johnson was the ring mistress in 1946. During this year, Len Mitchell withdrew from the troupe and Wayne Baldwin and Barbara Ford joined. The new performers also included Janice Sutherland and Franklin Shiffler. In 1947, the gang entered its seventh season with Mr. Galloway as the overseer. This year Wayne Baldwin and Wanda Wollet withdrew and Bob Sentle joined the troupe. In the eighth year, Mr. Glinka was the ring master. Jack Jewell and Gerald Kuney did not continue with the troupe this year, but three new hands were added: Julia Barber, Glen Layman, and Robin Wannemacher. The year 1949 found the troupe under the proprietorship of Mr. Antel. To the old gang were added Marlene Beaverson, Anna Bell, Gary Borton, Denny Grimm, Jane Leininger, Carol Lucas, Lowell McGowan, Carl Miller, Pauline Roth, Dale Schang and Pauline May. This year the big show lost Evelyn Bailey, Anna Bell, Denny Grimm, Carl Miller, and Pauline May. The year 1950 found the company making its tenth annual stop at Fayette High School. Later on in the season. Ella Mae Dunno and Janice Blust were added to the list of performing artists. The trainer for this season was Mr. Green, who is especially well-known for his ability to handle animals. During the eleventh year with the company, Lowell McGowan dropped from the roster and Colenzo Short and Bob Shull were added to the list of performers. The ring master this year was Mr. Boyd. The year 1952 was the twelfth and final year for stopping at Fayette. The star performers for this year were Dean Bates, Marlene Beaverson, Mary Beaverson, Gary Borton, Martha Borton, Merle Boyd, Delores Brackman, Norville Cramer, Bill Davis, Ella Mae Dunno, Barbara Ford, Paul Ford, Bob Gallup, Barbara Griffin, Harold Keefer, Jane Leininger, Carol Lucas, Dorothy Lukens, Nora Mae Nash, Pauline Roth, Bob Sentle, Colenzo Short, Bob Shull, Janice Sutherland, Shirley Swartzendruber, Richard Taylor, Mary Lou Uhler, Edith Warren, Robin Wannemacher, Gene Wilson, and Donelda Wright. The troupe lost Shirley Swartzendruber and Janice Blust during the year. The ring master this year, who helped the troupe to develop and present their final performance under the Big Top of Fayette High was Mr. Leuthold.
