A good board of education is a necessary part of every school. Sacrifice of much time and effort is required on the part of these officials, for which the remuneration is insignificant. In recent years the problems of a school board have been greatly multiplied. The Class of ‘51 expresses special thanks for the services of this board. Their efforts to provide a complete and well rounded education and school life are greatly appreciated. 4 --MELVIN R. HARMAN Education is the mother of civilization. As an educational medium, nothing has approached the usefulness of our public schools. As our schools go, so goes the nation. Schools must strive to produce citizens that are self-reliant and possessed of a broad social view. They mustcreate in the young a self-disciplined character and a dynamic initiative. --RUSSELL B. LEUTHOLD To stand for something is a necessary attribute of every worthwhile member of society. But what that is for which one stands is also important. Congratulations to you, members of the class of 1951, for the achievements which you have made. May you always stand for those things which are true and right and good and wholesome. 6 WILMA ARCHER First Grade. Ohio Northern University. VICTORIA PORTMAN Grade Assistant. They were: Evelyn Bailey, Richard Borton, Jean Brackman, Virginia Climo, Eugene Dietrich, Mary Ann Double, Grace Eckert, Marion Hayman, Marlene King, Gerald Kuney, Carol Jean Quillet, Richard Schaffner, Joan Smith, Von Smith, and Buddy Storrs. Our teacher for this year was Miss Alma Spring. In the next picture we see, we are across the hall in the second grade, where we can see Miss Mary Jane Altman at her desk, trying to teach her pupils. The new pupils this year were: Lowell Beaverson, Edith Felkey, Jean Mettert, Betty Stewart, and Sylvia Stockman. As we recall after three months vacation we were proud to pass by the office and go into the third grade room. The newpupilsthis year were Richard Bacon, Lois Gwinn, Glen Layman, John Taylor; while we lost Mary Ann Double and Marlene King. Our teacher this year was Mrs. Lola Stowe 11. Here's another picture and just think, we were in the fourth grade and here's our picture with Miss Eva LaSalle as our teacher. The new members in our class this year were: Carol Beaverson, Gwendolyn Croninger, Jo Ann Fidler, and Vada Klopfenstein. Again we find still another picture where we are traveling up the stairway to the fifth grade, with Mrs. Hazel Thompson as teacher. Eight new members joined our class this year. They included: Shirley Barnhart, Verl Moringstar, Bonnie Schoonover, Janice Sutherland, Dale Wolworth, Ward Joughin, Richard Griffin, and George Stites. We lost Shirley Barnhart. Our sixth year took us past the study hall, to the far end of the hall, where our teacher was Mrs. Marjorie Johnson. The new members of our class this year were: Dale Alpaugh, Charles Shiffler, and Mary Jane Stoner. Duringour seventh year we felt very proud to walk into the study hall and study beside the upper classmen. Our instructor for this year was Mr. Glen Gallaway. The only new member in our class was Betty Fruchey. As we can see in this picture our eighth grade instructor is Mr. Dane Caulkins. The new members which joined our class this year were: Joene Gardner, Donald Ikerd, Lynn Knisely, Ruth Taylor, Patricia Thompson, George Williams, Raymond Kenny, and Barbara Allgire. The next year took us into the ninth grade, where we had as our sponsor. Miss Ruth Berger. The new members of our class this year were: Dorthea Barnes, Joan Ely, Mary Ellen Schaffner, Charles Turner, and Marlene Wannemacher. We can see in this picture so clearly and it is our tenth year of school. Mr. Charles Bosse is sponsor of our class. Two members which joined our class this year were: Phyllis Aspin and Dale Pfund. We can see in our eleventh year that Mr. Paul Boyd is sponsor of our class. We are very busy working to make some money, having a successful Junior Plan, and planning to fill the Seniors with good food and a grand time at the Junior and Senior Banquet at Potawatomi Inn in Pokagon State Park. There were no new members this year, and we lost only one member, Donald Ikerd. Now we are finally nearing the end of sight seeing through these past twelve years. We have seen that there were seven members that stayed with us all through these twelve years. They are: Richard Borton, Grace Eckert, Harold Kunkle, Richard Schaffner, Joan Smith, Von Smith, and Bud Storrs. Lynn Knisely was president of our class and Mr. Russell Leuthold was sponsor of our Senior Class. We hope you will recall these pleasant memories with us. . My! How time does fly! Here it is the Summer of ’66 of course that's 1966! Here we are back again after all these years, attending our first alumni party in the new Fayette-High School. As we glance around we see Richard Griffin, President of the chain of Red and White Stores all over the world, arguing with Ward Joughlin, who owns his own Red and White Checker Cab Co. There seems to be quite a bit of confusion? ? ? Who is that nice looking girl in the white uniform? Oh, that's Barbara Allgire, now Dr. Noble's chief assistant. She finds her job quite promising. Why there's Phyllis Aspin, owner of her own Dancing School. She specializes in teaching short girls how to walk gracefully. Her prize pupil is Pat Thompson. We heard that Carol Beaverson is happily married. She has four boys, and has great plans for all of them--to be undertakers. Remember Lowell Beaverson, the pest of the Class? He is now painting pictures for calendars. He originated the Pretty Girl. Have you heard of that Champion Baseball Team, TheGold Sox ? Dick Borton is now owner and manager of them. They haven't lost a game for the past thirteen years. Watch out nowi There is Grace Eckert. She is now married and has two children, but she still finds time to keep her husband on his goat farm. Von Smith is now reviving the Whig Party. He is planning to run for President this fall. Jo Ann Fidler is taking over Mr. Carter's place. You know, Carter's Little Liver Pills? She makes them by the million. Mary Ellen Schaffner has her own beauty parlor. All of her hair dryers have radios built-in and dial reading; Light, medium, and well-done ! Richard Schaffner is now life-guard at Harrison Lake summer resort. He has a good outlook on the future. Lynn Knisely is teaching Women's Physical Education at the University of Michigan. He certainly seems to be enjoying his profession! Remember how reckless Harold Kunkle used to be? He now is driving hot rods at Ft. Defiance Race Track, and he's only been in the hospital ten times this past year. Joene Gardner is a broadcaster of recipes over five networks. Her latest recipe is for baked chicken liver smothered in onions. Remember Dale Pfund, big boy of the class! He is Ag. teacher at the Zone School, hoping to be as famour as Ed Green. Marlene Wannemacher and Joan Smith are both opera stars. They are making debuts at the Stair Auditorium in Morenci next week. Ruth Taylor has followed in her father's footsteps and taken over the Munson Mill. Bud Storrs is her assistant. Betty Fruchey is running for Congress. She says the government needs a woman’s touch, especially in the Treasury Department. Joan Ely is now head dietician at the Fayette Memorial Hospital. She plans all the meals for vegetarians. Our sponsor, Mr. Leuthold is here visiting with all of us. He's still teaching here and getting more bald every year. We've visited with everyone in the class and now it’s time to go home. It was wonderful seeing the whole class again and learning what they are doing. 16 Betty Fruchey Bud Storrs Dean Bales Ella Mae Dunno Paul Ford Barbara Griffin Merle Boyd Mary Beaverson Gene Wilson Martha Borton Richard Taylor Janice Blust Gary Borton Dorothy Lukens Robert Shull Janice Sutherland Robert Sen tie Barbara Ford Robin Wannemacher Nora Mae Nash Bill Davis Dale Schang Edith Warren Betty Calvin Donelda Wright Shirley Swartzendruber Carol Sue Lucas Pauline Roth 18 Helen Smith Gary Fidler Gilbert St. Clair Beverly Ives Jack Gleason Nancy Cramer Larry Mohr Norene Finley Larry Borton Fern Finley Marvin Griffin Charles Hatcher Jean Campbell Marvin Brehm, Not Shown Phyllis Beaverson Dick Stowell Barbara Stockburger Ora Alleman Carolyn Fruchey Bob Harman Mary Kuney Doris Goldsmith Kevin Snyder James Borton Mary Katsoris Jim Thomas Doyce Merillat John Adair Bill Ballin Bob Kaiser Rosalind Winzeler Bud Clark 19 Melvin Wyse Gloria Wannemacher Alvin Miller Carolyn Tingle Jimmy Merillat Barbara Sutherland Raymond Schaffner Phyllis Ernst Joanne Towne Kenny Potter Carol Bor ton Keith Allion Barbara Ford Royal Flint Virginia Bacon Jimmy Crawford Wilma Liby Gene Schaffner Lawrence Calvin Ollie Shiffler Evelyn Stites John Noble Maynard Raker Shirley Kline Nancy Brackman Billy Winzeler Jerry Zeigier Eloise Lucas Gerald Green Mary Lou Keefer Leland Fahringer Anna Layman Gerald Ford Ann Davis Harvey Johnson Paul Shull Irvin Fethers John Ford Sandra Seeley Robert Heiman Sponsor 20 Gene Be a verson Betty Siegel Edwin Schmidt Susan Brackman Paul Miller Florence Sentle C. What could possibly be more thrilling than to go to a dog kennel and choose a puppy of my very own - one that will share the comics, the radio and the big chair; It takes a long time to save that money from doing the chores, but I must have enough for that new B. B. gun that I've wanted for such a long time. It surely is a dandy - I hit the mark the very first time. Won’t that bike help me a lot with my chores. Hope I can ride it the first thing. Who cares if my room isn’t quite in order. Aren’t all the star baseball players' pictures and all the kinds of maps on the wall, the most important thing to me. That little radio for my room is just the thing - now I can listen to the ball games. Have to learn all about the game or I can’t be a professional player when I grow up. It surely takes a lot of hard practice to learn the game. No use doing things by halves. Doit all or not at all. I guess school work and ball are just alike. I can’t seem to think of a single thing that I want for Christmas. I guess I just have everything that any boy really needs. These were a few of Gordon’s pleasures and some of our fond memories of him. 42 His Classmates and His Teacher 1ST ROW; Victorian Porttnan, Teacher, Wilma Archer, Teacher, Kenneth Heximer, Carolyn Rupp, Raymond Casarez, Verna Jean Walker. 2ND ROW: Carl Tresslcr, Lorrine Keefer, Larry Dean Bretthauer, Dorothy Smith, Brian Holmes, Betty Merillat. 3RD ROW: Charles Snyder, Frances Tressler, Larry Frederick. 4TH ROW: Sheila Devys, Roger Sines, Robbie Dennis. 5TH ROW: Jimmy Carrington, Beverly Lantz, Wayne Chase. 6th ROW: Patricia Fulks, Terry Frederick, Margaret Kuney, Glen Bethel, Diana Reviere, John Zimmerman, Janet Blaker, Lynwood Leichry. 7TH ROW: Linda Kay Vandcrberg, Jerry Dewitt, Susan Perez, Ray Hart, Dee Ann Daso, Ronnie Sebring Linda Stoner, Geraldine Osborn. 8TH ROW: Linda Lou Link, Sharon Stone, Jeanne Kenbeek.
