SIGNED AND SEALED BY THE SENIOR CLASS OF ’47 Mary Lou Graf We started on our wagon trip in the fall of 1936, with thirty sitting on the hay. They were: Lyle Bailey, Charles Baker, Russell Bea-verson, Leslie Best, Helen Borton, Myron Clark, Verda Climo, Wendell Clinton, Davy Lee Crisp, Olive Davis, Marvel D’Lamater, Ned Evering-ham, James Fidler, Evelyn Ford, Mary Hess, Margaret Jean Hicks, Esther Hinesman, Junior Holly, Francis Johnson, Max Kinkaid, Lewis Lemley, Bertha Martens, George Nihart, Anna Quillet, Nelda Rose Reigsecker, Suzanne Robinson, Hubert Schilt, James Stewart, Mildred Walker, Lavonna Wallace, and Sharon Whaley. Our driver was Faye Longbrake. We had our toy band while we bumped along on our journey. The teacher, needing a rest, decided to stop at home for three months. Our second journey on the wagon, started with a new driver, Helen Weller. This time we have four new riders: John VanValken-burg, Clara Marie Cannon, Dale Boyd and Robert Scott. Eight of our classmates who fell off the wagon, were: Leslie Best, Myron Clark. Davy Lee Crisp, Olive Davis, James Fidler, Mary Hess, Francis Johnson and Suzanne Robinscn. Our third year on the hay-wagon, was a joyous one, with Vera Schaffner as our driver. We staged the operetta “Lazy Town”. Seven new pupils climbed atop: Delores Caddarette, Kenneth Paison, Arlen Schaffner, Lester Schaffner, Joan Nofziger, Rena Mae Seaman and Robert Hartman. And one fell off, Robert Scott. Miss Schaffner drove the wagon very well, so we kept her for the fourth time. We had six new wagon-riders: Dorlene Frank, Albert Huffman, Donna Martin, Nellie Thompson, Donna Borton and Lyle Towne. We had four who toppled over the side: Dale Boyd, Robert Scott, Delores Caddarette, and Albert Huffman. The operetta, “Cobbler of Fairyland,” was given this year. After three months rest we started again on our wagon trip with Doris Gamble as driver. We had three new ones join us: Ruth Brackney, Barbara Samac and Delores Vernier. We had two go over the side: Clara Cannon and Anna Quillet. This year was our last operetta, “Taffy Ann.” Our sixth trip, we got off the wagon with our driver, Mr. Stowell, and visited the Zoo, in Toledo. Three new ones went with us: Joanne Felkey, Mary Stites and Robert Stites. Four stayed behind: Mary Stites, Robert Stites, Joanne Nofziger and Rena Mae Seaman. Our seventh trip we started in Jr. High with six new pupils: Virginia Gwinn, Carl Cramer, Calvin Johnson, James Winzeler, Luella Raker and James Wiemer. Our eighth trip on our wagon took on three riders: Marion De- Witt, LaVem Bailey and Ruth Buckmaster. Three were left on the road: LaVern Bailey, Ruth Buckmaster and Delores Vernier. We got a new and bigger wagon on our ninth trip with thirteen new rider: Joan Beaverson, Howard Dennis, Richard Dull, John Funk, Mary Lou Graf, Dale Knisley, Ruth Lombardo, Millicent Randall, Bonita Roth, Marvin Roth, Merle Stemen, Lore Ellen Taylor and Lowell CLASS HISTORY (Continued) Thomas. V7e had our first trip into Sr. High. Five left us: Janice Al-paugh, Wilma Alpaugh, Calvin Johnson, Robert Whitis and Marvin Roth. This year we were deeply sorry to lose one of our classmates because of death, Margie Shinaberry. We filled the wagon with ham, salads and other delicious fooJs on our eleventh trip, to fill the seniors at the Jr. and Sr. Banquet. We had one new one to help us: Mildred Walker. Five could not attend so they dropped out: Mildred Walker, Lynn Cramer, James Stewart, Lavonna Wallace and James Winzeler. Now we are finally on our last wagon trip, our senior year, with George Nihart as president. We have reached our longest ride in high school, although we have always to strive better and better on our trips in life. WARD The Store of Quality Furniture RITCHEY’S PASTRY SHOP Fayette, Ohio Compliments RUDY’S CAFE BY MARY LOU MALCHOW It is the year 1967 and we see an aged, bent man making his way to the building bearing the inscription, Gorham Fayette Shool.” Mary Lou Malchow is the Superintendent’s private secretary and goes to meet the familiar and by now, gray man. “Come right along with me and let me show you around a bit. Be careful of that front step there, sir, and do let me help you; it is so markable how well you get around with just a cane. (‘First of all I know you are dying to meet Professor J. D. Funk. He is doing so very well these days now that we have put his office up on the third floor. He just simply could not stand the screams of the girls in the gymnasium every time they made a basket. “What is that sir? Oh... you are hard of hearing; I am so sorry. My goodness but you have surely aged in the past few years. But I shall continue to tell you about the class of ’47 you are so eager to hear about. They were such an exceptional one, it is no wonder you remember them so well. “Joan Beaverson is singing with the Metropolitan now and of course Allen never lets her out of his sight; he is curtain puller at the opera house. He is so proud of her and sometimes provokes quite a problem. You see he always swoons when Joany sings so that even though he always gets the curtain open, someone else has to close it. “Here, just step into this elevator. We use this for teachers and business men. Our students have to use the esculators. While we are on our way up to see Professor Funk, we shall stop and visit one of the classes. Anna Quillet is having a terrible time with her Sociology class. But she just goes on telling them to be as good and studious as that remarkable class of ’47. “Of course you hear Helen Borton on Kenny Paison’s program every night at 7:15. He is the singer with the voice that smiles and Helen does the ‘Oooooooooo, the Oxydol sparkles!’ “Here is Miss Quillet’s class room. Law and order! That is what J. D. Funk insists upon....cf course sometimes we do have to give them each an all day sucker to quiet them. Over there is Ned Everingham. He has a contract to do cartoons for a Hollywood producer but their requirements are that he graduate from his Sociology class. We have great hopes he will make it this year. “Now we shall proceed up to the office. I suppose you have heard about Roberta Corkle’s being a chorus girl in Fayette’s well known Pidgeon Club, branch of the famous Stork Club in New York City. Of course George Nihart is bandleader there with Charley Baker doing his solo work on the piano. “Red Dull’s corner grocery is doing quite well. Of course Red put up quite a kick when Evelyn Ford moved her Chevrolet Sales next door..they always go along sowell. But people were coming to town for groceries and were so flabbergasted with those beautiful new Cheyy’s, they would stand and gaze at Miss Ford’s display and go home forgetting to get their groceries. CLASS PROPHECY By Mary Lou Malchow (Continued) “That mill that Dale Knisely is running in Coldwater along with Howard Dennis’ sending potatoes in sure gives Red’s store a great demand. “While mentioning Howard, I must not forget to tell you that he he is filing suit for divorce and declares he is through with women. “Oh, I 9ee the professor is in conference with the rubber hose and one of those Thomas children again. You remember Lowell, of course. Well his little boy insists on sleeping in history class. “Ruth Lumbardo is a fortune teller and she is do very busy that she has to have two receptionists to keep the customers happy while they are waiting to see Madam Lumbardo. And I must say that Geraldine Wollter and Donna Jean Martin are doing an excellent job. “I believe the professor will see you now. I have a visitor for you here, professor.” ‘“Well, well, well, how nice to see you. Has Mary Lou been showing you our few improvements? But I guess we are not the only ones around. Lore Taylor’s department store, largest and best known department store in Munson, is really going places. And Mike Ste-men’s modern farm is really progress ng. They say his chickens lay twice a day now and my goodness, they are thinking of running a pi“ e line into Toledo, his cows are giving so much milk. “Mr. Ray Sommers was just here a few minutes ago with his Tiny Tot Readers. He is a traveling salesman now and can talk anyone into just about anything. He is thinking of going into advertising soon. Mary Lou Graf and Boneta Roth are running a joint shop on W. 52nd street here in town. Mary Lou tells them hew to keep slender and Boneta, Ray thinks, has great possibilities for advertising Camay, the soap of beautiful women. ”1 have here, a clipping from the Fayette Daily Sun. Esther Hinesman is running the Society column in it and it is really ‘muddy.’ ”If you plan to see Coach Lester Schaffner on your way cut, sir, I believe we should be getting started on our way dov nstairs. He has taken the team to state four times in a row now and is very proud of one of his cheerleaders. He coaches them, too, you know. One of the Russel girls is doing exceptionally well. Of course she gets coaching from home, too; you remember Sharon, don’t you? Of course her name wasn’t Whaley very long after graduation. “Well, here we are at the Gym door now. I guess I will have to leave you now because the professor is ringing his buzzer for me. It must be terribly urgent as he always pounds it out in boogy woogy when he is nervous. Just push that button there in the wall and the door will open. Do be very careful and take care of yourself..
