yesterdays harvest class history many, many years ago miss tule welcomed a little group of thirty-one in that never forgotten year 1996, in the old normal school. this was mr. thompson's first year as superintendent of our school, so we all made a grand start together. among those enrolled in the beginners' class were gail andre, franklin gamble, keith humbert, wayne kunkle, dor- thea kline, virginia kline, norma Iester. eileen mattern, phyllis pawling, ross russell, marcelle smith, reed stoner, betty stoops and von dana frederick. these fourteen have remained as faithful during these twelve years as the tick of a clock. the third year, with great enthusiasm we entered the new school building, from which we are graduating. ada spring was our teacher. due to the fact that some of the district schools were brought in, eight more pupils were en- rolled this year. in the fifth year, a new teacher, miss fought, welcomed us upstairs to her room for a year, after which we left for the sixth grade, taught by lola gleason. we had many interesting projects to take our interest before we entered junior high. we met our first junior high year with great enthusiasm, for it meant changing classes, the privilege of attending all assembly programs and the access to study hall, besides many other exciting activities. toward the end of our eighth year, some of our number were privileged to accompany the orchestra on its trip to ottowa, kansas, where it ranked second in the national contest for class c orchestras. our freshman year! the greenest of the green, were we the freshmen of 1934. we broke all of fayette's school rec- ords that year, for we entered this year with a total of 54 students, and did we take advantage of our new positions! we rubbed elbows with the sophomores, as we had taken their intended place in study hall instead of the regular fresh- man room. mr. valentine, the new music teacher, was our sponsor this year to help him, were the class officers, foster link, reed stoner, stella heximer and ralph jones. we took on our new title, sophomores, the next year and kept the ball rolling with mr. reed as our sponsor. in his cabinet were foster link, reed stoner, roy lemons and herbert woodard. 'this year our enrollment dropped to fifty. in our junior year we selected mr. lukins as advisor with marvel thrasher, keith humbert, herbert Woodard and roy lemons as class officers this year we assembled with forty-four students with the help of miss sullivan we put on the play heart trouble. remember how the electricity man gave us the dark? but if you'll remember the teachers gave us their help with flashlights. many of our members had the opportunity of participating in the public speaking play called meet the duchess in the spring, after we adjourned, we went to toledo instead of having a regular class picnic. we visited several factories, the blade printing co., and the art museum as well as other points of interest we assembled again for the last time the next fall. we have now reached the top in our high school career. dur- ing this last year we have had the privilege of having mr. rich as our advisor, and we must certainly give him our many thanks in making this a happy and successful year. we have greatly enjoyed looking to him for answers to many problems. through these twelve years we have had a record of 83 students enrolled in our class at one time or another. through all these years we have had a mighty nice time in good old fayette. we must also commend our teachers for their patience and the kind instructions given to our class. to the oncoming senior class we leave our motto for thought: to strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield. eugenia hochstetler ruth butler QJ2'lf7:D fr ' I
