QC Iii 3.4 P-K 3-1 If l-I lil Q1 Q0 43 l yesterdays harvest class history many, many years ago miss tule welcomed a little group of thirty-one in that never forgotten year 1996, in the old normal school. this was mr. thompson's first year as superintendent of our school, so we all made a grand start together. among those enrolled in the beginners' class were gail andre, franklin gamble, keith humbert, wayne kunkle, dor- thea kline, virginia kline, norma Iester. eileen mattern, phyllis pawling, ross russell, marcelle smith, reed stoner, betty stoops and von dana frederick. these fourteen have remained as faithful during these twelve years as the tick of a clock. the third year, with great enthusiasm we entered the new school building, from which we are graduating. ada spring was our teacher. due to the fact that some of the district schools were brought in, eight more pupils were en- rolled this year. in the fifth year, a new teacher, miss fought, welcomed us upstairs to her room for a year, after which we left for the sixth grade, taught by lola gleason. we had many interesting projects to take our interest before we entered junior high. we met our first junior high year with great enthusiasm, for it meant changing classes, the privilege of attending all assembly programs and the access to study hall, besides many other exciting activities. toward the end of our eighth year, some of our number were privileged to accompany the orchestra on its trip to ottowa, kansas, where it ranked second in the national contest for class c orchestras. our freshman year! the greenest of the green, were we the freshmen of 1934. we broke all of fayette's school rec- ords that year, for we entered this year with a total of 54 students, and did we take advantage of our new positions! we rubbed elbows with the sophomores, as we had taken their intended place in study hall instead of the regular fresh- man room. mr. valentine, the new music teacher, was our sponsor this year to help him, were the class officers, foster link, reed stoner, stella heximer and ralph jones. we took on our new title, sophomores, the next year and kept the ball rolling with mr. reed as our sponsor. in his cabinet were foster link, reed stoner, roy lemons and herbert woodard. 'this year our enrollment dropped to fifty. in our junior year we selected mr. lukins as advisor with marvel thrasher, keith humbert, herbert Woodard and roy lemons as class officers this year we assembled with forty-four students with the help of miss sullivan we put on the play heart trouble. remember how the electricity man gave us the dark? but if you'll remember the teachers gave us their help with flashlights. many of our members had the opportunity of participating in the public speaking play called meet the duchess in the spring, after we adjourned, we went to toledo instead of having a regular class picnic. we visited several factories, the blade printing co., and the art museum as well as other points of interest we assembled again for the last time the next fall. we have now reached the top in our high school career. dur- ing this last year we have had the privilege of having mr. rich as our advisor, and we must certainly give him our many thanks in making this a happy and successful year. we have greatly enjoyed looking to him for answers to many problems. through these twelve years we have had a record of 83 students enrolled in our class at one time or another. through all these years we have had a mighty nice time in good old fayette. we must also commend our teachers for their patience and the kind instructions given to our class. to the oncoming senior class we leave our motto for thought: to strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield. eugenia hochstetler ruth butler QJ2'lf7:D fr ' I ff .U from now on class will l we, the senior class of 1938 of fayette high school declare under honorable and intelligent testimony that this is the final will of the senior class. to the faculty we give and bequeath the opportunity to secure knowledge that we, the lsenior class of 1938, received from the encyclopedia and dictionary. from now on we submit to the juniors our assembly seats. said seats in assembly room to be used with care and the gum under same to be chewed not more than twice. . i . to the sophomores and freshmen we leave our most beloved latin teacher, miss hollett. isaid person to have complete control we wish to express individually the following: gail andre wishes calvin canfield to acquire his profile. jeanette belding wills her blues singing ability to mary griffin. virginia bretthauer wills her intelligence to carmon borlon. ruth butler wills her ability of writing novels to louise ragan. hubert cline leaves his popularity with girls to gerald dunn. robert crisenbery leaves ruth climo to junior rice. von dana fredrick wills his study hall seat to jack kelly, franklin gamble wills his artistic way of modeling to robert peter. stella heximer leaves her becoming attraction for her many boy friends to juanita cisco. eugenia hochstetler bequeaths her good sense of humor to mary ellen miller. keith humbert wills his chic style of dressing to ivan ford. george kibler leaves his english alibis to betty maginn. dorthea kline wills her dimples to blanch cutshaw. orlyss kline wills her chesterfield boy friends to gene treat. virginia kline wills her shorthand note book to betty ann acker. wayne kunkle wills his method of keeping away from the girls to robert hale. willo kunkle leaves her shyness to velma nickerson. clara lou laser wills her squeaking ink bottle to robert van auken. harley ledyard leaves his noon hour chats to keith sebring. roy lemons wills his good looks to ivan hinesman. norma lester leaves her dancing ability to Ieola crater. wanda marzolf wills her big blue eyes to marian mc caslin. eileen mattern leaves her friendly ways to peggy arbuckle. phyllis pawling wills her ability of burning midnight oil to helen severence. harold pummell wills his quiet, studious manner to margaret clark. ross russell wills his ability as editor of the purple and gold to donald smith. olive shinabery wills her method of combing her hair to ruth sprague. marvel shinabery wills her humor to ruth wagoner. marcelle smith wills her music ability to vernon thrasher. reed stoner wills his great influence as president of the senior class to mildred brawley. betty stoops wills her art of dressing to kathryn fulmer. odora stoops wishes minerva sullivan to have her straight hair. stella sutherland wills her childish ways to virginia double. virginia wisman bequeaths her popularity to alice cameron. claretta wollters leaves her many giggles to virge hochstetler and herbert woodard wills his popularity as sales manager of the senior class to galen kunkle. having completed our four years of high school, which all of us have greatly enjoyed, we trust that the above items from now on will be carefully observed and followed as the last will and testament of the class of '3B. stella heximer l reed stoner subscribed and sworn before me this 13th day of may, in the year of our Lord, one thousand nine hundred and thirty-eight. uncle snazzy burns t. p. QjS2QfD m:sHhi..fn1aLanirb-4i:ae'iBat.L 1- A-l .ic'?'l11- facing forward prophecy as editor of the good housekeeping magazine, i, ieanelle belding, received an unusual article from our recipe collector, virginia brellhauer. it was an odd sort of a recipe, inasmuch as it was called memories of 1938. the first ingredient was odora sloops, who is better known to this modern age as the voice of experi- ence. then two parts of the former clarelia wolllers, an up-and-coming farmerette. next a compound of dress designing and graphic arts with willo lcunlcle and franklin gamble taking an active part. in order to make the recipe more lively, we must take slella sulllerland singing ship-mates forever. now for a little double-action, please take roy lemons, who is gone with the wind and rulh buller with a late edition of old curiosity shop. so far so good and along comes norma lesier on the movie screen with virginia lcline in the new cur- rent play, theatre of life. upon leaving the showhouse along came romance, when the usher, dodhea lcline, very graciously bowed us out. now add a very small amount of our new aviator, herberl Woodard, going skyward. if you add too much you certainly won't be able to keep the recipe under control. to this add Phyllis pawling, planning a trip abroad. then for a few bumps, take several parts of harley ledyurd roughing it. perhaps some of our more intellectual friends are wondering how the recipe will succeed without a dic- tionary of events, ross russell: and quite a bit of making success by Wanda Inlrlalf. for new days and new ways turn to that jolly little lady, eileen lnallern. the finished recipe will thank you lor it. next a portion oi huberl cline saying taint' right lor bob crisenberry to go down main street. beyond the great wall of the above ingredients, wayne leunlcle is patiently waiting for kid galahad alias von dana Fredrick. the jam is getting worse, so call in the Famous lion trainer, george lcihler and the understanding heart, reed slaner and between the two, i am sure your recipe will seem more normal again. to add a little joy at this point, let's all tune in on the first lady, joe penner, or clara lou laser. forget if you can, slella heximer, and a member ofthe all star cast of new york, eugenia hoch- sleller. next find virginia vlislnan, through the eyes of a camera gazing at the past, present, and future athletic star, lteilh hulnlaerl. hush, our concoction is becoming very beautiful, for in a distance we hear the soft notes of a silver flute played by marcelle smith. only yesterday olive shinabery was studying the marks of an educated man with harold pummell. now here comes orlyss lcline doing very lovely hairdress for marvel shinabery, the gay crusader. in an age of innocence we find rulh cusler thinking thoughts of old with belly shops, the faithful, loving daughter. the recipe is complete except for gail andre, who comes sailing along in his shining auto, dream's end as editor i turned the recipe over to our editorial writer, mr. rich, who smiled and then said, i knew they would all be a success in their own particular way. virginia bretthauer jeanette belding QJQISKD W gg J!
