IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, We hereunto set our seal and publish and declare this to be our last will and testament In the presence of the witnesses as named below, this first day of April in the year of our Lord, one thousand nine hundred thirty-six. THE CLASS OF 1936 OF FAYETTE HIGH SCHOOL Signed, sealed and publicly announced by the said class as and for its last will and testament in the presence of us,- who, at its request and in its presence and in the presence of each other, have subscribed our names as witnesses. MERYL KLINE GLADYS HUTCHISON WALTER GRIFFIN, Notary Public Per M. T. Signed and sworn to in my presence April 1, 1936. CLASS HISTA'RV It was way back in ’32 when forty-nine new pages, the largest number ever to seek Knighthood, were accepted at court. (The Court of which we speak was Fayette High School, and we were two of the forty-nine pages.) In this Court, they would be trained until they would be qualified to enter knighthood and have the titles of lords and ladies. Many qualities which they had to learn were kindness, courtesy, nobleness, and quickthinking. Their leader and kind friend during this year was Sir Rich and his helpers were Richard lhompson, Kathryn Russell and Glenda Stoner. After a short vacation all but six assembled again at Court. They were no longer mere pages,- they had become Squires. The promotion made them delicately dignified. Sir Rich was again their leader, and the officers of their Round table” were Kathryn Russell, Merton Shipman, Glenda Stoner, and Jeanette Acker. They had many tournments and contests which showed their deftness and improved their skill. Eager to continue in their adventure, they began their third year as Maiden Knights. They had four new members—Donelda Seigneur, Maxine Thrasher, Ida May Mann and Albert Mann. Richard Thompson left the Court and there were thirty-nine members. Sir Reed was the leader during this important year and the officers were Kathryn Russell, Glenda Stoner, Jeanette Acker, and Meryl Kline. This was the year when two good deeds had to be done to gain promotion. First, they gave a play in the Theater entitled Guess Again” and then a large banquet was given in the Royal Hall in honor of their superior Knights. Both were very successful. The latter marked the end of the year. They entered Court in their fourth year as true Knights. Their leader was again King Rich and there were thirty-nine members attending him. The officers were Kathryn Russell, Jeanette Acker, Irene Ely, and Jean Ziegler. In the last year, they decided to publish a great book concerning the life of the Court. In this queen Guinevere, Miss Hollett, worked unceasingly to help them and make the book a success. They a'so presented another play during the last year. Then the final vows of knighthood were received. At last they were ready to go into the world as Lords and Ladies! They had acquired the titles for which they had been so faithfully working. However, more and more as time went on, they realized that it was not only names they had attained, but many other things which were so much more important. To form a brave man, educate boldly.”—Richter Mary Henry Jean Ziegler WHO'S WHO Jeanette Acker: SAYING Well, bless your Norris Andre: heart! Oh! Me! Howard Bender: Nothing doin'! Before I became a newswriter, I was one of those lassies and lads. The editor decided that thirty-nine Was too many for one person’s scope; So an extra reporter---guess who---was hired To help me get the folk. It was many and many a year ago In a school house made of bricks. That a class there dwelt which you may know As the Class of Thirty-six. Ah! The years have gone so quickly, And Providence’s fateful hand Has directed the steps of those students bold Through many an unknown land. Meanwhile, the Sherlock was Margaret I learned, Imagine my surprise! Her success in this line she attributes To her well-trained eagle eyes. Grace, Margaret said, was a working girl At the home of wealthy friends,-There Norris is a chauffeur and doc To the crippled old motors he tends. We traced Catherine to a musical place, Otherwise, a Conservatory. And, speaking of shocks, there was Leroy, As he fiddled he told us his story. He spoke of Gaylord, a hog-raising champ.” Catherine said Mary Henry was abroad. Gladys Hutchison Shipman in London declared The report of her divorce was a fraud. Now girls will be girls and will often indulge In a drink at a soda fountain. We didn’t recognize the “soda-tender, 'Till our change he was countin’. He was Tommy, a clerk in a Paris drugstore,- Well! Well! and who would have thought it? He heard our mission, then took us next door To a shop and we nearly bought it. For Lowell you see, is a salesman there And very insistent, you bet. Do you wanna buy a-- he began, Duck? added someone we hadn’t seen yet. The newcomer was Ceryil, a college boy still, Shopping in Paris for clothes. Why say! I saw Charles just outside, he said, So immediately we arose. Not far down the street we found him, And Charles admitted freely That he owned a style shop, and asked If we had seen Irene Ely. She’s now Irene Ingle,” he told us, On the seventh she's giving a party. We rushed to Defiance and found her with friends And classmates, hale and hearty. There were Juanita (Mrs. Kofenstein) And Dane -now Weismuller II—. We admired his many fine trophies until Our most charming hostess had beckoned VanValkenburg Pate de Foie Gras” we were served; It's known to the Antarctic Sea. Doris was its creator, of course, And a capital chef was she. The entertainment was soon to begin, Spotlights were turned on the shining floor. A dancer entered gracefully-It was Doreen—Guess no more! In the course of the evening I admired my hostess’s dress. yes, it's an Evelyn Gamble creation, she said. She’s in Paris now, I guess. Someone turned on a radio And heard an announcer say: Now, we re glad to present Howard Bender Singing a cowboy lay.” Artistic Dorthea has reached the heights As a caricaturist you know. Jean, teaching at Fulton, is making that school Far-famed where e'er the winds blow. There is Glenda, faithful still, as of yore, To her dear little J. H. A They’re keeping house in the District, now, He draws postmaster general's pay. As for Arlo, he long since has embarked On the wide deep seas of invention. His latest—stream-lined chewing gum— Has excited much attention. Bill is the master mind who orates Long speeches at the medicine show. The detective, Karle, catches the gangsters all And into the pen they go. Ruth met her Fate on a hike one day. He was tall and blond and dapper. She promised to love and obey him And they lived happily ever after. Only Clifford's life remains unchanged. Doris Bacon and he are good farmers. Vera Seiler draws a large paycheck and aspires To be one of Earl Carroll’s charmers. Meryl too has traveled far and wide— But on seas of matrimony— As a gay divorcee she testified That four pay her alimony! Georgia Spengler’s lily-white hands Are cooling fevered brows; And Merton has a ranch out West Where he’s busily tending cows. Virginia went South to teach, I hear, But for a Southerner’s wiles did fall. Now it’s Bring mah mint julep here, suh, And pahdon mah Southern drawl.” The wild-haired Fascist, Albert, Found all social evils' cure. While Jeanette, disillusioned by life, Is a nun now, chaste and pure. Ida May Mann long ago Decided she wanted to fly,-So she bought herself an airplane And now she sails the deep blue sky. Irene Nickerson is a lion tamer Who dares the mad wild beasts. Neither she nor snake charmer, Donelda, Are scared by such things in the least. Across the street from Glenda and John Live Katy and her Cubby, She tells us that dear Ramond makes An almost ideal hubby. Oh! The years are many and the years are long, And we again have seen our classmates. None of them were old or bent But tsk! tsk! Some had false plates!
