Missing from picture: Julio Ramirez (Manager). The Kickin ‘Rams’ season started in late August with difficult practice ses- sions. The practice emphasized over- all conditioning, which consisted of grueling twelve minute runs and many quick sprints. A new part of was initiated this year, and consisted of video tapes on areas such as ‘how to play defense, ’ etc. Each player had one of the toughest soccer schedules this year. This year’s team strength was the young, strong defense led by all-stater Robert Craig. Also, scoring punches came from midfielders William Fe- lian, the captain of our team, and Richard Meschback, who is among the top twenty five offensive players in the state. This year’s team was ea- ger and ready to face many tough games coming up. The Rams kicked off to a winning start by beating St. Joseph 2-1. The Rams’ next game was against Evan- ston, who was one of the top ranked in the state. The Rams proved that they can play against a tough, phys- ical team like Evanston by tieing them 0-0. In the following week, the team was in the Niles West Tourney. The Rams’ first game was against a highly experienced Niles West. The Rams struggled because of the let down from the Evanston game, but still managed to beat them 2-1. Then at the next game, the Rams’ offense ex- ploded and beat Willowbrook 6-1. For the championship game, Gordon had to play Oak Park, whom they beat two years ago to go down state. Needing only a tie to capture the champion- ship, Rams played a tough, physical game and tied them 1-1. For the third year in a row, the Gordon Rams had come home with the Niles West Tro- phy. Then Rams got ready for a match against the No-2 rated team in the state at that time, Hinsdale South. With Robert Craig controlling Hins- dale’s explosive offense and Willie Fi- Jack Brzakovic dribbles the ball upfield.
