Football A weary team along the sidelines. score at 6-6 as we headed for the lock- er room. After an inspirational half- time talk we came out fired up for the second half. The game continued as a defensive battle until late into the sec- ond half when Loyola put another six points on the board. This left us with less than 2 minutes to tie the score. With the ball on our own 18 yard-line, there seemed to be little hope for vic- tory. However, the confidence and de- termination the offense marched the ball 82 yards in one minute and thirty seconds tying the game at 12-12. An unsuccessful point after attempt took us into overtime. Losing the coin toss put our offense on the field first. We scored on third and long and then the missed two point conversion gave us only a six point margin. Then the de- fense marched out onto the field and successfully kept Loyola from scoring in four tries. This victory strength- ened us as a team and gave us the incentive to beat Brother Rice and put us into the city playoffs. GT: ‘82-'83 SOPHOMORE GORDON OPPONENT 21 Marist 0 16 St. Patrick 6 7. Paul Fraklin runs upfield; not seeing any open receivers. Going into the playoffs as the num- ber one cede we confidently faced and defeated DeLaSalle for the second time. This gave us the chance to take revenge against arch-rival Weber. It was a defensive battle to the end with Gordon defeating Weber in double overtime by one point. Revenge was sweet. Victory over Weber put us in the Prep Bowl for the first time in Gordon Tech history. We faced Public League championship, Julian. The game went as expected, we dominated on offense and defense, shutting the Public League powerhouse down. The season ended with an unfor- seen record of 10-2 and a city cham- pionship, the 1982 Football Team players and coaches had something to be proud of. It was a season that we will all remember.
