Football 4-0 Weber. We lost to Weber 26-7, the low point of our season, but from here on, everything was uphill except for the tough loss to Mount Carmel. This de- feat ruined our hopes for a possible state playoff birth. However, with hardened persistence we beat Fen- wick, Loyola and Brother Rice. The Fenwick game was played at Oak Park Stadium. The offense domi- nated the field soring 14 points and running 32 of the 48 minutes off the clock, while our defense held the Fri- ars scoreless. Returning home to Lane Stadium we met with catholic-league rival, Loyola. This proved to be one of the year’s most exciting games. The first half was a defensive struggle, with the VARSITY GORDON OPPONENT 7 Lane Tech 0 38 St. Patrick 7 21 De La Salle 6 21 Leo 6 6 Weber 25 13 Fenwick 0 26 North Shore Pale VAY 0 Mt. The preseason started with the Dirty Dozen in May and 7 on 7 in June. Then in August, doubles, the hardest preseason workouts began. This year doubles started on August 18, a week later than last year. These workouts would prepare us for the rugged, competitive Catholic League. The conclusion of doubles put us one week away from the opening game against Lane Tech. With only a few returning starters and an inexpe- rienced quarterback, the coaches were not sure what to expect. The players were determined to strengthen the faith of the coaches and proved the media wrong. With this attitude and an experienced coaching staff, includ- ing head coach, Tom Winiecki, Wide Father Blaski gladly accepts prep bowl trophy. Football Receiver and Defensive End coach, Bob Carskie, defensive mastermind, Coach John Hoerster, along with of- fensive line coach, John Urban and defensive back coach, John Gruber, the Rams were ready to start the sea- son. In the opening game we handed Lane Tech their fourth loss in four tries with a 7-0 victory. After a few more tune-up games (victories over St. Pats, De LaSalle, Leo) we opened the Catholic League North Section against
