Ed Dubel, (Moderator). The media anticipated the 1982 Var- sity Football Rams to finish 5-4 with little hope of post-season play. It was supposed to be a year of rebuilding. The preseason started with the Dirty Dozen in May and 7 on 7 in June. Then in August, doubles, the hardest preseason workouts began. This year doubles started on August 18, a week later than last year. These workouts would prepare us for the rugged, competitive Catholic League. The conclusion of doubles put us one week away from the opening game against Lane Tech. With only a few returning starters and an inexpe- rienced quarterback, the coaches were not sure what to expect. The players were determined to strengthen the faith of the coaches and proved the media wrong. With this attitude and an experienced coaching staff, includ- ing head coach, Tom Winiecki, Wide Father Blaski gladly accepts prep bowl trophy. Football Receiver and Defensive End coach, Bob Carskie, defensive mastermind, Coach John Hoerster, along with of- fensive line coach, John Urban and defensive back coach, John Gruber, the Rams were ready to start the sea- son. In the opening game we handed Lane Tech their fourth loss in four tries with a 7-0 victory. After a few more tune-up games (victories over St. Pats, De LaSalle, Leo) we opened the Catholic League North Section against
