QBDIJ RDBINIDN October 19, 1971 TO THE CITIZENS OF C1-IICKAMAUGA: November 16, 1971, has been set as the date for the School Bond Referendum. This proposed issue of S250,000.00 is to build a new elementary school to replace the three story building which burned in April. In passing this bond issue, we will become eligible to receive approximately S300,000.00 additional funds from the State School Building Authority to be used in construction of the new school. The bonds will be a 20-year issue and it is estimated by professional bond people that the average annual cost will be approximately S20,000.00. This figure can only be determined by using the actual interest rate at the time of purchase. What will this cost? For comparison, our 1971 tax digest is 5130534.90 plus 512,578.75 automobile tax collected for Chickamauga by the County. The sum of these figures is S142,913.63. Adding 520,000.00 to this equals an increase of 14'72,. This is the most it could cost. A breakdown of our 1971 tax digest and the projected figures to include School Bonds are: 1971 DIGEST 1491, or 1971 Industry ........ .......,... as 75,363.20 .,........ ......... 33 10,270.85 ...,....., Commercial ........ . ..,, 15,604.98 .......... ......... 2 , 184.70 ,........ , Utilities .............. 5,621.04 .,....... ..... 5 06.95 ...... Also, there is another major industry presently building a plant in Chickamauga. This will mean additional taxes that do not show in the above figures. It is very possible that nur bond issue could be retired with only a small, if any, increase in the tax rate. If you registered last year to vote in the City election you are eligible to vote in this referendum. If you did NOT register at the City Hall last year, you may do so between now and 5:00 p.m. November 1, 1971. Voting will be in the Fire Hall Building from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 n.m.
