Daughter In a small five-room, two-story dwelling on the outskirts of Guayaquil, Ecuador, lives a little girl, one of a family of nine. She is a tall, slender girl with brown hair and deep, dark expressive eyes. Her high aptitude for learning has showed itself in her marks at school. She takes an interest in all her school work (her favourite subject is writing) but always reserves time for helping others and does household chores for her mother. As you have probably guessed, I am talking about our foster child, Bella Esperanza Chavez. Bella ' s father, a truck driver, earns $40 a month Out of this meagre income he pays a number of monthly expenses: rent $7.50; electricity $1.75; char¬ coal $1.50; food $25.00. (By the way, Esperanza and her seven brothers and sisters eat two meals of main¬ ly cereals and milk and small quantities of meat per day.) Under Plan, Gordon Bell helps Esperanza by sending her $51 quarterly, along with occasional Christmas gifts and birthday parcels. The financial donations will terminate (as set by the sum acquired by Charity Drive 1968) in late 1972. That should set all of us to thinking about what we ' re going to do when this time expires. Here, then, is a note from our little girl: Dear Foster Parents, It is a great pleasure to greet you and your dear family, I wish you are all in good health. I tell you that I got the first place at school, this is because I have gotten good marks. Answering your question of what the kids do when they are on vacation, I tell you that most of them spend their time with their parents at the beach, like in Salinas, Libertad, Playas, Punto Carnero, etc. These are during the months of February, March and April. This is all I have to tell you, so I close now with a hug. Your foster child, Bella Cha vez Good luck, Bella, Keep in touch. u
