DE TS While learning from all facets of high school life-extra curricular, cultural, and social-the stu- dent acquires the bulk of his education from books and classwork. Life here at Goodrich is built upon and around study which, if neglected, usually insures a hasty departure from the select group of people whose members have earned the right to be called students From those who study at a steady pace beginning the first day of the semester to those who de- pend on the final cram for a grade, students engage in this activity with as great a variety of atti- tudes as the number of personalities in the school. For some it is met with loving enthusiasmg for others it is merely an unpleasant means to an end-a diploma. At times it seems that the pressure and competition to maintain scholarship is too keen, but, whether of his own accord or by being pushed, prodded, and frightened into it, the student studies. This phase of high school life may or may not be used to its fullest advantage. It may or may not see its completion in graduation. But, if a diploma is awarded to a student, one is sure that study's compensation-whether grades, a good position in life, or just having matured-is more than ample. 43
