WRESTLING Coach Bill Parish ushered in the grunt and groan sport, rela- tively new at Goodrich, by welcoming a record 92 hopefuls. Since the few lettermen retuming were grouped in a narrow weight range, much depended on eager but inexperienced candi- dates. The 4-5 season record, the first loser since the inception of the activity, doesn't tell the whole story. Though luck, close losses, and injuries hampered the squad constantly. Excellent individual records were posted by Scott Bergstrom, 7-4g Jack Bera, 10-53 John Rauls, 14-75 Tom Kraft, 8-43 Mike Peterson, 19-5, and Ted Kuhnz, whose season was shortened by injuries, 9-2. Things looked quite bright for tournament competitionghow- ever, the best we could do in the Fox Valley Conference was a second by Kraft and thirds by Rauls and Peterson. In the re- gionals, three grapplers qualiiied for futherr competition toward the State. They were Peterson with a first and Rauls and Bera with seconds. All three, however, were eliminated at the sec- tionals with Rauls being edged out in a heartbreaking, O-1, over- time match. With the graduation of only seven seniors, Coach Parish and Assistant Coach Julien Kinzer can look forward to a strong nu- cleus for the 1968-69 hostilities. Retuming to anchor that squad will be such dependable perfomrers as John Rauls, Ted Kuhnz, Duane Johnson, Jim Bauer, and Joe Mengle.
