Sophomore Class Steve McConahey lim Gaffney Iean Block Chuck Bloedom PRESlDENT'S MESSAGE Serving as president of this class has been an experience I will always remember. l'm sure that you will agree with me in that we have a great class and one which will do much in the future. I'm sure we will fulfill the responsibilities that we will face in the future. Remember, many things will be expected of our class! STEVE MCCONAHEY When the last echo of summer had turned to fall, the newly arrived sophomore class of '59 anxiously filed into the wel- coming doors of Goodrich High to begin a busy and event filled year. Their year of record success was started by the election of the following capable class officers: President, Steve McCona- hey: Vice-President, Chuck Bloedorn: Secretary, Ieanne Block: and Treasurer, Iim Gaffney. Setting their hopes on a Rocket to Vivtory, the sophomore class worked diligently on the class float and the decorations for the homecoming dance. Sophomores elected to the Queen's Court were Ieanne Block and Diana Burke. ln the field of sports, the I-V football and basketball teams completed successful seasons with Chuck Bloedorn and Larry Olson playing on the varsity football squad. Chuck, demonstrating his athletic prowess, was also a regular on the golf team. Iim Lee, Iay lohnson, and Ricky Gilmore furnished the track team with new blood by turning in outstanding records in running and relays. Scholastically, the sophomore class proved their abilities by placing a high number of students on the school honor roll. In addition, Bruce Petri and Frank Disbrow qualified for an honorary correspondence course from the University of Minnesota by receiving superior ratings on a standard math test. At the Berlin music festival April 2, eight sophomores received first place honors in class B solos and duets. Three sopho- mores, lim Gaffney, Mike Gulig, and Bruce Petri, obtained a first place rating in Class A, thereby entitling them to compete in the state music festival at Madison. The prevalent atmosphere among the sophomore class as they ended their first year of high school was one of pleasant memories. The sophomore class, we feel sure, will continue to foster the high ideals they held in the past year. Page Forty-t hree
