W1 I 4' High School History Class of I952 August, 1948, found twenty-three eager students ready to start their Freshman year, lt wasn't hard to recognize us, with those bright green beanies, The Freshmen were: Ellen Marie Bokma Robert Graham David Proud Catherine Borth Norman Hoaks Harry Schwier janet Louise Chapman Richard johnson Gary Stutesman Albert Cox A - Anita McDaniel Babette Talbott Raymond Cummings Velma Miiller Richard Watts Gary Danner Willard Montgomery Paul Weiand Helen Downs Edward Nevitt Charles Welsh Beatrice Fariss Vern Winger Putting away our green beanies and our green manners, we entered our Sophomore year, Officers were: President, Richard Watts, Vice-President, Edward Nevittg Secretary, Ellen Bokmag and Treasurer, Velma Miiller, In November we sponsored a magazine sales campaign, We also sold G, H, S, socks and plastic pillows, ln the meantime, we were all eagerly awaiting our class sweaters-- maroon and white with GOODLAND on the back, and white '52 on the sleeve, At Christmas time, the juniors and Seniors got together for a Christmas party at the schoolhouse, Now we are making progress: Thanks to our accomodating teachers, we were now juniors, Our officers were: President, Edward Nevittg Vice-President, Gary Stutesmang and Secretary-Treasurer, Ellen Bokma, During the basketball season, the juniors had charge of the concession stand, Class rings, having been previously ordered, arrived before Christmas, On November 28, 1951, the class sponsored Look Out Lizzie , a rural comedy, The cast included: Richard johnson, Babette Talbott, Ellen Bokma, Gary Stutesman, Robert Graham, Velma Miiller, Catherine Borth, and Harry Schwier, The Farmeretts and a trumpet trio provided entertainment between acts, Then we began planning for our prom, The date set was May 4-th, The theme, The Rainbow , The music was provided by Tod I-loward's Band, The setting featured a garden scene with rock walls flanked by realistic garden flowers, The beautiful rainbow was the center of attention, probably because its pot of gold was the punch bowl, When the school year '51-52 rolled around, we found that we were finally Seniors, Class officers selected were: President, Ellen Bokmag Vice-President, Anita McDaniel, Secretary-Treasurer, Velma Miiller, During this last year we sponsored a food stand at the school carnival, held several successful bake sales, ordered announcements and name cards, had our Senior pictures taken, and made plans for our Senior trip, -Ba shful - Yes, it was Norman Hoaks, President of the New Island State Bank, Nice going: The speaker and chairman of the reunion was Mr, Edward Nevitt, Eddie had just returned from a non-stop flight to Moscow, Russia, in a C-50 rocket which was invent- ed by the greatest inventor of all time, Vern Winger, Vern also invented an aspirin with flea powder in it for people who have lousy headaches, u Also, presiding at the reunion was Major-General Harry Schwier, jr, Harry is a Major-General in the Bakery Department of the Army, Well, who else do you suppose we saw there, Velma Miiller, of course, Velma and her husband live in their suburban home in Brooklyn, New York, Velma is a New York model for a fashion firm, Nice going Velm : All in all, we had one great time. Tired and sleepy, but happy, we headed back to the hotel, then home, Our Pioneers The long trail of the way of the '52 'ers toward their destination started back in '40, Of the eighteen graduating members of this faithful class, only twelve have been together throughout their entire school career, The se trail blazers are: Ellen Bokma Robert Graham Norman Hoaks Richard johnson Anita McDaniel Velma Nliiller Edward Nevitt Harry Schwier Gary Statesman Babette Talbott Charles Welsh Vern Winger Class Will We the undersigned, being of sound mind and body, will and bequeath to the teachers of Goodland High School: Three left-hand paddles and four bottles of nerve pills, 9lC7iUl0'F5l:35l:?95?l0l'9F3n'1 I, Catherine B012-L will my love for Rensselaer to Nancy Nevitt, Don't go to extremes in using it though, Nancy, I, Carole Donahue, will my interest in all boys to Alice Dalton, Don't break their hearts, Alice, I, Norman I-loaks, will my ability to get along with the teachers to Charles Jensen, lt comes in handy Chuck, I, Velma Miiller, will my Quietness to Orville Davis, Ahem, That is for use only in Griff s study hall, I, Richard johnson, will my ability to play the piano to Doris Allen, I, Wilma Hoaks, will my ability to keep my mouth shut when I am mad, to Beatrice Fariss, Use it sparingly or you'll be sorry, Bea, I, Edward Nevitt, will my ability to have three or four girls on the string to Bill Perkins I, Anita McDaniel, will my typewriter to Donnie Spurlock, Don't work too hard on it Donnie, I, Paul Weiand, will my ability to get kicked out of class to Robert Ravellette, Don't go to extremes in using it though or it might'be definite: I, Raymond Cummings, will to Louis DeGroot, my ability to grin, It takes the gloom out of the school day, I, Harry Schwier, will my red face to Bill Perkins, this is for use especially in government and economics class, Bill, I, Ellen Bokma, will my love for Chevies to Mary Ann Bower, Take good care of it Mame, I might want it back: I, Babette Talbotb will my shorthand ability to joan LeBeau, Make use of it next year joan, I, Charles Welshl will my brains to Louis DeGroot, Don't wear them out, I, David Proud, will my ability to agree with the teachers, to Louise DeGroot, I Clary Stutesman, will my love for girls to Donnie Spurlock, Be careful: I, Vern Winger, will my love for country roads to Carolyn Nicholson, I, Babette Talbott, will my ability to pay strict attention in classes to Lois Stombaugh, I, Robert Graham, will to Charles Jensen my love for blondes las if he needs itl, QN l S .1ul- fl...-1n .L Latin Club sw N Sunshine Society if ig 3 57 7 Sffzbfig n E, iiiwir ylggg-x ,fb V W 3 fi S' gui 5 'EF ,... 1 G A ' x . . Basketball Review The Trojan season record stands at 9 wins and 10 losses for the season, The team and their fans consider this the best season since at 'least 1947 and a glance at the record will tell you why, This year's Trojans have accomplished what no other Trojan team has been able to do in the past, and that is, beat Brook three times in one season, Double and single overtime games were necessary to accomplish this record-breaking iete. This edition of the Trojans were also runners-up to Kentland in the county tourney, Although Coach Griffith is losing five Seniors by the graduation route, Schwier, Johnson, Graham, Nevitt, and Stutesman, prospects for next year are bright, A fine crop of Sophomores are coming up to replace these losses, Regardless of future successes, this year will long remain in the memory of the team and their loyal followers, Brook 45 43 fo, TJ Remington 46 50 Gilboa 51 58 Earl Park ' 33 58 Mt, Ayr 39 40 fO, TJ Kentland Z4 40 Boswell 38 33 Freeland Park 33 40 Williamsport 46 41 Wadena 57 31 Morocco 25 40 HARLEY GRIFFITH, COACH County Tourney Brook 58 55 KO, TJ Kentland 36 54 Fowler 37 55 Remington 42. 56 Brook 55 54 QO.
