B. T. H. S. had once more resumed its routine of duties and every student was to be with a smile on his face and ready to ex- tend both hands and push his upmost to put the shool before the com- munity and then later, before all of Southern Illinois. So it was before such a happy group of students, especially the Seniors, that Mr. McLaughlin revealed one of his many plans of adver- tising our school to the community. He suggested that the Seniors erect a lunch stand at the Sesser Fair which was to be held at the High School and thus help finance their annual. This was certainly a splen- did suggestion but Audra, the enthusiastic Senior president, announced that the class had already secured the right to erect the stand and were making plans for the project. So with the untiring support of Mr. McLaughlin, the class soon had the plans under way and were too glad to take advantage of every opportunity of helping finance their annual. Now, isn't that the kind of a class to have-one that is up and going and ready to support the school in every Way possile? Every undertaking is a success with such a jolly group of school children as that behind it acting as a main spring. They, with the un- relinguishing support of the entire school, advertised the Sesser Fair far and wide and everyone soon began talking about it. It seemed to be uppermost in everyone's mind as a good chance to put our school before the eyes of the public. Posters were seen everywhere and the school children were talking about the wonderful Fair to be held in the old home town but behind all this was the motive of making the Senior stand a success. Thus the few lapsing days passed until the 5th of October dawned- a big, bright sun in the east with a cloudless sky ahead and the exalting children expressing their joy at seeing the day dawn bright and clear. This day and the next were to be spent at the Fair and everyone began bringing his exhibits of live stock, poultry, and etc. Before the morn- ing was half gone, large crowds were gathering on the campus with reports that more were coming. Right this way for your late breakfast and early dinners, in fact for anything you want, rang shrilly through hte cool, refreshing, morning atmosphere. Everyone turned to see who it could be and found not only one, but a half dozen others vociferating the same thing. llllllIlllllIIllIIIlIllIIIIIIIIlIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllIIIllIIIIIIIIIllIllIIllIIIIIIlIIIIIIIIllIIllIIIIIlllllIIIIIIIIIIIlIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIlIIIIIIIIIlIIIlIIIIIllIIIIIllIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIllllllllllllllllllllllllllllIllllllllllllillll

Well at last I'm through with those dignified Sen- iors. Ah! Now I've got it easy! Here comes a member of the faculty. Good lookin' too. Thinks I care for her combing her hair! Well let her comb it, she's not tied! Just one hairpin-As if one hair pin could conquer a nation! Nice little girl to lend her one-One of those Sen- ior girls too. Well-and I thought she'd know how to pose! I've reached my conclusion- The older they get the less they know. -Velma E. THECHIEFMN 35 1illIllllIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIlllllllllllllllllllllllIIIIIIIIIlIIIlIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIllllllllllllllllllllllIIIIIHIIIMIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIlllIIIIIHIIHIllllllllllllllllllllllIIIIllllIIIllIIIIIIIIIIIIlllllllllllllllIllllllllllll They were the Seniors, with faces aglow With smiles. Those smiles seemed to be contagious and the sandwiches and ice cream delicious, because that lunch stand was the main attraction throughout the Fair. Everybody seemed to have come to eat and the Seniors to sell. They were busy all the time filling the roders and collecting the dimes and quarters. Thus the first day of the Fair passed and the second was still more satisfying to the Seniors, as everyone seemed to be more hungry tha never and naturally came where he could get more for less money. The second day passed and the Seniors had made much more out of their lunch counter than they had ever anticipated. Thus the reader sees that this is one of the many Ways used by the Seniors to make money to finance their annual, the book you are now reading. But the Sesser Fair is now passed and Commencement will soon be here and the good old G. B. T. H. S. will soon close its doors forever to the merry Seniors of '24, but their thoughts will still linger there, the place Where they spent profitably, the early springtime of their lives. Perhaps some of those Seniors will go ahead to the Universities and continually add to their knowledge of the world around them, the first flickering glimmers of which they caught in the G. B. T. H. S. Perhaps some will become men and women of prominence but all will be a hundred times better than they would have been if they had not completed their High School courses. All of them will have much better homes than they would have had otherwise and perhaps all of them will have the occasion to be resting in an easy rocking-chair of a well furnished home casually scanning pages of the annual of the class of '24 when they chance to recall the Senior lunch stand which helped make possible the book and the results of which spurred them onward to greater activities. No, they can never forget the part which the Senior stand played in financing this annual and thus helping the Board of Education to put the school before the opening eyes of the public and later to make it one of the foremost High Schools of South- ern Illinois. -Henry Cockrum, Class '26.
