As time goes on March seventeenth on Fifth Avenue They were freshmen then Rankin, SJ., reminded us of our responsibilities. One of our early tasks was to give the annual HalloWe'en party at which time Juliette Chapdelaine's unique recitation of nlsittle Orphan Anniew was memorable. Then While the students made preparations for the bazaar we had our thoughts also on the Wlest Point Military Ball, a great sophomore event of the year. No one can imagine the anxious weeks that preceded it before we knew who would be the chosen few permitted to attend. Wllen the hall was over and the bazaar successfully brought to a close, we turned our attentions to oratory and dramatics. Several sophomores spoke on the Wlestchester Catholic Hour and also made up the largest part of the Christmas play cast. Jean Murphy acted notably as old Ebenezer Scrooge and the costumes and stage properties were most convincing. We attended the annual Christmas banquet and then assembled for the carol night pageant before We took leave of Good Counsel for the holidays. Hjoy and Cladnessu rang across the campus and His Excellency, Bishop Kearney, celebrated Solemn Bene- diction of the Most Blessed Sacrament. After the vacation We were present at the party which fittingly closed the Christmas season. A new war bond campaign was openedg the first debates of the term were 19

The first function at the heginning of the scholastic veur was the celchration of the Mass of the Holy Spirit Irv the Right Revcrend Monsignor Joseph A. Breslin. D.D.. Honorary President. ln between the various parties we managed to hccome acquainted with the new fresh- men for whom thcrc had heen a week of shouting Timber as we watched the new- comers shiver at our words. But like delivered: and Hnally. the sehedule for the examinations was presented to u all others. they. too. passed away with few easualties and then Betty Sehneider began her relentless seareh for manuscripts for the Vox Sludentium, the sophomore puhliea- tion. liehearsals were in progress for the Lenten play, The Cloth of Sendony, in whieh Nlargaret Camp played the leading role. ln March on the feast of St. Thomas Aquinas. our first philosophy symposium was given. Many of us were memhers of that learned eirele. The first week of May hrought the sophomore danee along with rumors of peaee in liurope. A few days later those rumors were eonfirmed and immediately special serv- iees of thanksgiving were held in the eollege ehapel. Throughout the entire year, we had offered partieular prayers for peaee and students kept eonstant adorations hefore the Blessed Saerament for the intentions of Our Holy Father. There were May Day devotions throughout our Blessed Mother's month and on Mothelfs Day we were host- esses to all the sodalities of East W'estehester on wlorld Wlide Sodality Day. The program for eommeneement week kept us well oeeupied the first week of June. We sang and played games on field day, enjoyed the strawherry festival, and eagerly watehed the seniors hestow pine walk on the juniors. On elass day we presented to the graduates our ivy ehain and Maria Staek, our President.. wished them well in the name of all of us. The following day we saw the seniors reeeive their diplomas from His Emi- nenee, Cardinal Spellman. Not long after the strains of Pomp and Cireumstaneeu had faded. we said good-lnye to Cood Counsel for the summer. 20
