cellter of vitamin researcll in the United States. Betty has offered Marilee Donovan the use of one of the laboratories at the Foundation to continue her experiments with Dono- van Drops. the all-purpose vitamin endorsed by ,lack Armstrong. It is 1'llIIl01'Cd that ,loan Stiquel will also be appointed to the staff of the Foundation. Her angle is surgery. I would not be surprised if she concentrates her efforts on proving the efficiency of Galotta surgical thread. about which Margaret is busy now preparing explanatory information. Our State Department has assigned Helen Gallagher. one of the IIIOSI capable lnem- bers of its Pan American Commission, to make ready the IIIOSI valuable of this lnaterial for our Soutll American neighbors. As the Secretary of State remarked at a press con- ference last week. Cal0tta Surgical Thread will do lllllcll to keep the people of the Americas together. Memo No. 2: Cues and Views . Wlhat could tllat mean? Oh. yes. l remember. It stands for the new literary review that is to be published once a year. Dorothy Mullins is editing it. Advance notices suggest tllat it will be quite comprehensive. Marjorie McAvoy's book, Expose on Handwriting As I Read It, will be reviewed. I alll even lll0l'C excited about Marjorie's latest copy just gone to press. It is V0lllIllC one of her Memoirs or The Roaring Forties. l see that Dorothy is going out on a lilllll in discussing the Rahill sketches NUnder- water Scenes. Rosemary startled classicists in the art world last year by actually sketch- ing under water. She used the revolutionary new Harrigan paper - EV61'SIl100tll. ,loan has nlade a fortune witll her new paper. Metaphysics Can Be Fun or There's Nothing to Being, Florence Traynoris latest book, will be treated in Cues and Views as the year's outstanding pllilosophical work. MCUIO No. 3: Remind Margaret Camp about the account. The Archibald Wlool contract is quite a feather in my cap. It was not easy to land. Margaret and her husband have been concentrating on newspaper advertising for their 'argyles for kiddies and it has been very successful. Katherine Flynnis triplets, who Ill0flCl the socks, have captured the hearts of Alllericans. Mary Boisi has done artistic work handling the photograplly. The Boisi touch.. tllree Irish smiles, and the socks lll8lCC quite a combination, but Margaret has finally agreed to give radio advertising atrial. I have assigned the account to the Breakfast with .lean and ,linlinyv show. If anyone can sell a product to the American woman, ,lean Hartman can. It was slle who earned the slogan, P.D.M.S. Yes, a Perazzo dress means success and thereby established Doris Perazzo as the oracle of the fashion world. Even ,lulictte Chapdelaine, young Du Pont executive. and one of AlllCTlC3,S ten best dressed women, ilml'lllS the Pcrazzo creations. MCIIIO No. 4: Bon Voyage gifts for Olga Lamattina. 1 have 31111051 decided to stop giving lllC'I'll, for Olga shuttles back and forth between the United States and France as 112

Building from nine to two-nineteen. I asked my secretary to say hello to Mary for me, but I am almost sure she will forget my message when she sees the exhibit. They are featuring the latest Dugganite. This is Laura's fifth brainchild. She has made a startling contribution to the business field every year since 1947 when she turned the trick with a 'Lwritcrtypef' the typewriter that automatically spells everything back- wards. It revolutionized radio advertising and, of course, procured terrific sales promo- tion when it was announced that a complimentary writertype went with every Stude- baker. This time Laura has outdone herself for speedy production. lt has America,s biggest magnates wondering about the magic scissors that cut the red tape for the Dugganites. It is not such a mystery when you realize that Janet Duffy has become really influen- tial in Wasllington circles. She is there as voluntary representative of the North Tarrytown Chamber of Commerce. Janet dropped everything including her executive position with United Airlines eight months ago. Since then she has been lobbying against the proposal to merge North Tarrytown and Tarrytown. She has touched many American hearts with her appeals for the safeguarding of North Tarrytown's sacred individuality . Clare Bender has given her whole-hearted support to ,lanetis work. Although Clare has become a national figure as president of the American Federa- tion of Womenis Clubs, she continued to be interested in Westchester. She proved that last fall during the Yonkers mayoralty race. lean Murphy's election was no accident. Clare's management of the campaign was superlative. Since her election, ,lean has intro- duced legislation to make the installation of the Farrell cushion compulsory in all vehi- cles of the Yonkers-Wllite Plains Bus Lines. Constance Farrellis product is a combination of helium, steam, and nylon according to the Madison formula. Eileen introduced this formula in her first book, Life Can Be Beautiful or You, Too, Can Pass Geometry. Eileen will be the guest member of our lit- erary round table broadcast at three o'clock when her latest book, How to Win Friends and Square Roots, will be discussed. If I want to make the broadcast, I had better take care of these memos. Let's see now. First things first. My subscription to the Bronx Home News has to be renewed. Lucille Suglia is doing such fine work writing for its womanls page, I hate to miss a single issue. I especially like her interviews of leading daughters of the Bronx. Patricia O'Connor, N.B.C.'s Singing Lady , is to be next Tuesday's subject. Her daily program has achieved even greater popularity with children from coast to coast since the release of her new album by the La Barbera Record Company. Sara, so celebrated some years ago as with the atomic touch is now concentrating on directing her new company. She is making one of her rare personal appearances next month at Carnegie Hall for the benefit of the Schneider Foundation, which seems destined to become the 111

though she were commuting from New York to New Jersey. She is leaving again on Thursday. Travel reminds me that I had better make a note of Cathlecn Cullen's arrival next Sun- day. She is flying from Ireland where she has been gathering material for her book, The History of Ireland. She is to be godmother for Marjorie Delaney's daughter. Very shortly Helen Larkin is going to go on vacation for awhile. I fear the public will miss her bril- liant interpretations and comments on current events, but I am relieved to see that she is finally going to take a rest. I'Ielen's future plans include collaborating with Juliana Burkard on the writing of a book that is to be the official text on international law for use in the World Court. Memo No. 5: Gallagher promotion. We are going to try something new this week in connection with Gallagher cosmetics. Doris has wisely bought exclusive rights to June Schinto's amazing product, a new type of stocking which Barbara Aylesworth has promised to boost in her column in La. Prensa. We are fortunate that the new stocking has been given the Cicciarella seal of approval. That is absolutely the highest medical endorsement possible today. Trying to sell our new product without it would be like trying to sell a child's formula that had not been tested in Mother Johnston's Chemical Kitchen. It was Marguerite's large family that started her experimenting along nutri- tional lines. Then Anne Fay, one of the leading child specialists in the country, advised her to make some serious studies. Of course, Anne,s work encompasses all aspects of child welfare. Her introduction of typing to the grammar school curriculum caused a national sensation. Anne feels that one is never too young to start building up that speed. Memo No. 6: Luncheon - Long Island. Oh, I almost forgot it. We are going over to Rosemarie Steropolils home on Long Island. She and her sportswriter husband were recently chosen the couple of the month by a leading women's magazine. I am sure Rosemarie would have become one of the interior decorators of the country if she had not decided on marriage. The luncheon is in honor of Jane Markey who has been named Woman of the Year . Her newspaper work has had outstanding influence on the public. One oiclock is the time for the luncheon. I must hustle. One more minute. Memo - Check the memos! JOAN OGILVIE 113
